  1. Hi there, Me and jcarle are having that same problem (see this post ) So, if anyone could help, that'd be great. Smudge
  2. I had exactly the same issue aswell JCarle, anyone have any ideas on this as it's really frustrating. I replaced four files in total after running NLite (safe settings): SYSSETUP.DL_ WINNT32U.DLL WINNTBBU.DLL SFC_OS.DL_ I also edited hivesft.inf to disable WFP incase that was the problem. Thanks in advance Smudge
  3. Cheers for that Gabriel, I have done that before when I was running a RC version in VMWare. I should probably have clarified further in my original post, I have done absolutely zero configuration changes since Monday and have not pointed at v5 or v4.windowsupdate. I simply clicked on Windows Update on the Tools menu and it automatically took me there. Maybe there's some kinda fluke thing going on here, I was the first of my friends, family and work colleagues to get the 250Mb upgrade on Hotmail aswell. Maybe Bill and Steve like me or something !?
  4. Only problem being that I haven't updated to SP2 yet as I'm giving it a settling period first. Still running on SP1 at the moment.
  5. Hi there, I've been away (in a cave ) all this week and just got back to my computer. Now correct me if I'm wrong, and I may have missed this, but has Windows Update v5 just gone live? Probably just me running on satellite delay or something Thinking bout it, probably was just me missing it as I'm assuming it coincided with the release of SP2 to Windows Update on 16th. Smudge
  6. If you can get hold of it, suppose you could use something like Partition Magic. It's not gonna be hardware vendor specific, so shouldn't be a problem for your different drive types. Dunno if that's the kind of thing you're after?? Smudge
  7. Hi Slicer, When you say you have two drives, do you mean two physically seperate drives or two partitions on one drive? If you have two physically seperate drives, you would probably benefit from having the program run on the C drive, seperate from the paging file, especially if they are both on seperate IDE channels (IMHO) If it's just partitions, much of a muchness really. 8. I totally agree with you there, part of my job is locking down workstations and setting security policies for network machines, and there are so many places to look and things to set that it's incredibly easy to miss something. I'm presuming that you are running Windows 2000 environment, so if I could suggest a little 'light reading', the Microsoft guide to securing Windows 2000 server should be of some assistance, more from a security point of view than from 'big brother' content filtering one. And if you've got the money, and if you can find one, maybe you could hire........the security consultants!!!!! Smudge
  9. Sorry synapse, I think what prathapml was getting at was your rogue 'i' (winnit, should read winnt) I have used winnt.sif in lower case and it worked fine for me. Regards Smudge
  10. Oh, and I nearly forgot the one that our 'sister company' uses, which is a suite of products bundled together from Webwasher. (www.webwasher.com) They include the URL filter, Antivirus, Content Protection and Content Reporter. I think they have also recently implemented Instant Message Filter. Regards Smudge P.S. Sorry, don't know pricing on these. I'm tech, not fiscal
  11. I think your best bet in this case then is to use some form of proxy. This will cover yr 'dodgy' websites. Personally I'm a fan of ISA, although I'm sure there's people here who will give you details of many others which will do as good if not better job. Smudge
  12. Hi bashy, There's lots of ways I suppose you could go about this, depending on how your network is set up to access the Internet. Are your PCs set up to access via a single router/gateway or are they all on seperate links? I know of a few routers that have keyword/URL filtering that would achieve parts of what you are after. Are you looking at changing that configuration at all to route it through some form of proxy? Maybe ISA might be beneficial in this case? A quick fix (if yr users aren't too Windows savvy, and you know which sites they are visiting), is to place entries in the 'hosts' file to block access to those specific sites. Sorry if I went a bit off target there, but hopefully that might give you some ideas. Smudge
  13. Hi there, The check box you are after appears at the bottom left of the burn dialog box (when you actually tell Nero to start to write to the CD). Smudge
  14. prathapml, that's really quite spooky and kinda scary. Although, as you say, unsure as to how that could be utilised at the moment. For all it's major flaws, I still use IE6 as my main browser, mostly because of Windows Update to be honest. I am a little paranoid about how secure IE is though. I have played about with Firefox a lot recently and quite like it, very simple to use, which is something that makes me a little nervous, as it sometimes appears to be 'too friendly'. Maybe it's just me being paranoid again Smudge
