  3. Just thought I'd let you know I figured it out for myself. I went into safe mode and changed the permissions. I guess I wasn't logged on as administrator as LS suggested. I assumed I was as I control what goes on with this computer. Thanks for your help anyway, I really appreciate it. I just don't understand why I didn't have this problem before-I never changed anything-I'll blame it on my brother too I guess. haha
  4. Right back at ya guys-hehehehe The Perfect Man is gentle Never cruel or mean. He has a beautiful smile, And keeps his face so clean. The Perfect Man likes children, And will raise them by your side. He will be a good father As well as a good husband to his bride. The Perfect Man loves cooking, cleaning and vaccuuming, too. He'll do anything in his power To convey his feelings of love to you. The Perfect Man is sweet Writing poetry from your name He's a best friend to your mother, And kisses away your pain. He never has made you cry, Or battered you in any way. To hell with this endless poem, The Perfect Man is gay.
  5. I re-installed to the letter (XPertie's advice)and yes I chose NTFS. Lou-I tried your suggestion but I don't have those options. Other folders are grayed out too (recycler, and wu temp), but I can access them. Any new suggestions? BTW, XPerties, checked out your site-cool topics-looks fun- a little hard on the retinas-might see me there, just don't want anyone to think I'm sweet on ya..... hahaha
  6. DIRECTIONS for MICROSOFT TV DINNER 1. You must first remove the plastic cover. By doing so you agree to accept and honor Microsoft rights to all TV dinners. 2. You may not give anyone else a bite of your dinner (which would constitute an infringement of Microsoft's rights). You may, however, let others smell and look at your dinner and are encouraged to tell them how good it is. 3. If you have a PC microwave oven, insert the dinner into the oven. Set the oven using these keystrokes: \mstv.dinn.//08.5min@50%heat// Then enter. 4. If you have a Mac oven, insert the dinner and press start. The oven will set itself and cook the dinner. Be forewarned that Microsoft dinners may crash, in which case your oven must be restarted. 5. Remove the dinner from the oven and enter 6. Many users have reported that the dinner tray is far too big, larger than the dinner itself, having many useless compartments, most of which are empty. These are for future menu items. 7. If the tray is too large to fit in your oven you will need to upgrade your equipment. 8. Dinners are only available from registered outlets, and only the chicken variety is currently produced. 9. If you want another variety, call Microsoft Help and they will explain that you really don't want another variety. Microsoft Chicken is all you really need. 10. Microsoft has disclosed plans to discontinue all smaller versions of their chicken dinners. Future releases will only be in the larger family size. 11. Excess chicken may be stored for future use, but must be saved only in Microsoft approved packaging. 12. Microsoft promises a dessert with every dinner after '98. However, that version has yet to be released. Users have permission to get thrilled in advance. 13. Microsoft dinners may be incompatible with other dinners in the freezer, causing your freezer to self-defrost. This is a feature, not a bug. Your freezer probably should have been defrosted anyway.
  7. You guys are extreeemely witty today, but maybe I do need the XPertiser to answer this one after all. haha You see, before I post I try to find s*** out for myself and I read that too from microsoft. Problem is I do not have a security tab and the option for simple file sharing is missing too. I also read something about assigning hidden attributes-but os course that's for the experts-not me. Thanks anyways you funny guys! XPertise WHERE ARE YOUUUUUUUUUUU? HAHAHA
  8. On your birthday I'd like to give you these ancient words of wisdom............... DON'T STOP BREATHING! happy birthday
  9. No-Only the system volume folder-it's grayed out. by the way-I'm the only one with rights to this computer-I see what you mean, windows was hidden, now everything opens except that folder I mentioned. I read about enabling rights on the microsoft site but it doesn't apply to me I guess because I can't take the steps they suggest.

  12. hey guys-just out of curiosity, why is there black dots on my envelopes-I noticed that nobody else has them. What's up with that?????????? I thought maybe it was for "a certain someone" to recognize the men from the women!!!!!!! hahahaha
  13. Yes, they are. More specifically restore archive. This may sound like a stupid question-but it's driving me crazy-also I don't like not getting my way!!!!!!!!
  14. Hey guys, the "miss" is back with yet another question for you computer GODS........ Before I re-installed xp I had access to certain folders. I have gone to folder options and unchecked, but it still says access denied. Something I'm forgetting? Thanks.
  15. You guys are toooooooooooooo funny!!!!!!!! Next time pay attention to the "bad" not the "miss" Who other than a woman would admit to being bad........ and proud of it!!!!!

  18. hey guys! I'm back! Did you see that movie castaway with Tom Hanks-the part where he makes fire? haha that's me I reformatted!!!!!! ha I couldn't have done it without you guys though! Thanks alot!!!! Couple times I got a little worried- it gave 3 choices not 5-and never asked for my recovery disk at all! Then I had problems re-downloading Norton's. Everything's good there though. Now I have a new question: I waited 30 mins. for windows update and still no updates will show-it sits at 25%-what's up with that? Is there something else I should have done? Thanks again in advance you computer Gods:)
  19. O.K. got ya-just wanted to be clear on what you said. Thanks. BTW-checked out your site-pretty **** cool!!!!!!!!!!
  20. XPerties-oops sorry, I do have one more concern-hope you don't think I'm a pain in the :moon: I was just reading the s*** that came with the recovery disk. Just to be clear-when you say "pop in the me disk", that's all there is to it? Compaq has 4 different options for me to choose. So, I am following your instructions, right? Thanks-this is a big step for me and I don't want to f**k it up!
  21. XPerties- You're a huuuuuuuuuuuge help to me! I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks soooooooooooo much FthrJACK- Thanks for the advice-will do! Last but not least-thanks to the"lonely poster" Conan-you were right -wanted to make sure you got your due! Thanks guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. Thanks again!!!!!!!! That does sound pretty darned easy to do. I really have been getting conflicting advice-others have told me crap about command prompts, bios, the list goes on and on. One more question before I start-do I need to back-upeverything? Doing this this way, do I lose all my programs? Just give me a basic idea so I know what I need to keep on hand. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! P.S I liked that "slave" thing you mentioned in a different post Women really do like guys who toss their coats in the mud and such! they really like guys with a sense of humour too!!!!!!!!
  23. Thanks again. I never thought of that, I assumed it came from a copy of winzip he downloaded. When Norton scans everything seems fine-just won't remove from restore. It has caught other viruses though and did its job. My brother said he was going to do a clean install for me. He assumed because I'm somewhat new at this that I couldn't do it. he is a bit of a know it all. I am a fast learner and I try to do things on my own. One thing-I won't let him near my stuff again! Anyway... I'm not sure of the proper steps to re-install xp as I have been getting conflicting advice. I had me (pre-installed, no disk) I have a recovery c.d. from compaq I have an xp upgrade c.d. If you wouldn't mind walking me through a re-install that would be great! Thanks for all your help thus far! P.S. I read that you can un-install xp but it's not listed in my add/remove-I assume tht's because my brother didn't do something he should have(log uninstall files?) ??? I'll look forward to your reply!
  24. Hi again-thanks for your reply. In May my "computer genius" brother upgraded me to xp for me. In the morning Norton's popped up a warning telling me to re-install. I had to re-install 3 times before it would take. he was downloading everything and their dog so I guess I got it there (I had no reported virus before) Norton's is telling me my computer is infected (not e-mail) no networking cable thanks again for your help.
