NOTE: According to M$, you're only supposed to user the pached version if you're experiencing problems. @scankurban: that's what the reg file is for. (the hive part) BTW, one "report" states that you should change SFCDisable in the second reg patch to SFCSetting

I suspect it might be Inno, but the usual "signs" of different installers isn't there.

Could Someone check if my RegTweaks are ok?

This entire section is commented out: ;Change the default Wallpaper ;[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\General] ;"BackupWallpaper"=C:\\windows\\Resources\\Themes\\MediaCenter\\Wallpaper\\MediaCenter.jpg ;"Wallpaper"=C:\\windows\\Resources\\Themes\\MediaCenter\\Wallpaper\\MediaCenter.jpg This is actually the default in WinXP, but there's no harm in leaving it: ;This allows boot files to be placed optimally on the hard-drive for faster boots. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction] "Enable"="Y" This is enabled by default too, I believe: ;Enables Autorun [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:00000000 another default: ;Enables Always Prompt User When Downloading [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions] "AlwaysPromptWhenDownload"=- You might wany to cuustomize this to fit your contry (google.ca, for example) ;Makes Google IE's Default Search Engine [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main] "Search Page"="http://www.google.com" "Search Bar"="http://www.google.com/ie" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL] ""="http://www.google.com/keyword/%s" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search] "SearchAssistant"="http://www.google.com/ie" There's a lot more defaults in there than the ones I've covered. Keep in mind that there's no harm in leaving it alone If you're NOT on broadband, you might as well get rid of that broadband stuff Hate to be nickpicky, but there are also some grammar errors in your comments. This DOES NOT affect the tweaks in any way. @Tsunami: Are you sure about the SFCSetting thing? I don't want a bunch of angry file pack users on my case -
of course its worth it! Everything in the anti-M$ movement is good P.S. Didn't they say only Canadians use the "our" spelling nowdays? P.P.S. Also, if I copy the favourites to %SystemDrive%\Documents and settings\User\favorites, will it still work if I create the user profile later?

Rumours flew around the Web on Tuesday about Google's potential plans to release a Web browser. These rumours have been fuelled by a number of high-profile hires that Google has made, including various people who worked on Microsoft Internet Explorer, added to the fact that Google Inc. has registered the domain name gbrowser.com. A Google spokesman refused to comment on reports surrounding the 'Google browser', but analysts believe they may have some substance. James Governor, a principal analyst at Red Monk, said that he would be surprised if Google was not working on browser technologies. He does not think it will create a new proprietary browser. Instead, he expects Google to build on Mozilla, the open-source browser. This potential strategy is supported by the fact that Google hosted the Mozilla Developer Day on its campus last month, where programmers worked on improvements to the browser. Governor believes that there is plenty of room for innovation in the browser market, in particular as Microsoft has said that it will stop development of standalone versions of IE, and will instead evolve the browser as part of future updates to the Windows OS. A potential area of innovation for Google could be the incorporation of offline storage into the browser. Google recently increased its offline storage know-how when it hired Adam Bosworth, who developed the Alchemy framework for BEA, a standard that enables offline storage for use with laptops and occasionally connected clients such as PDAs, iPods, and mobile phones. Allen Weiner, a research director at Gartner, said that offline storage would only be useful if you could seamlessly move the information into productivity tools such as Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Money. He added that Microsoft was in a better position than Google to develop such technology. Overall, Weiner said that he did not think it would be a good idea for Google to create a browser as it would distract the company from its main business. "Google's focus is as a search platform -- an information provider. They are not a software company," said Weiner. Weiner believes there is no money to be made from a browser unless it offers a very big jump in functionality. He said another alternative browser is not needed and is unlikely to succeed given that other browsers have struggled to gain significant market share from Internet Explorer. "There are already wonderful alternatives around such as Firefox and Opera, but they have only managed to get a small percentage of market share away from Microsoft." Opera said it welcomed the news that Google is potentially entering the browser market. Pal Hvistendahl, vice-president at browser firm Opera Software, said that he wants more competition in the browser space as it makes people aware that there is an alternative to Microsoft. "Anything that makes people realise there is a choice out there is good," said Hvistendahl. Source: ZDNet UK http://news.zdnet.co.uk/software/linuxunix...39167420,00.htm

MOSCOW (AP) -- The replacement crew for the International Space Station started two days of preflight exams Monday, part of final preparations to relieve the two-man Russian-American crew finishing a six-month mission. Russian cosmonaut Salizhan Sharipov and U.S. astronaut Leroy Chiao are being tested on manually docking and undocking the Soyuz space craft with the orbiting space station and other maneuvers ahead of the scheduled Oct. 9 launch from Russia's Baikonur cosmodrome. Russian space officials said last week, however, that a problem with the craft's docking system could delay the launch. Konstantin Kreidenko, a spokesman for the Russian space agency, said Monday that engineers were aiming for an Oct. 11 launch date. Cosmonaut Yuri Shargin also will travel into space, but is to return 10 days later with the current crew, cosmonaut Gennady Padalka and astronaut Mike Fincke. Russian space vehicles have provided the only link with the space station since the United States grounded the shuttle fleet after Columbia broke apart over Texas on Feb. 1, 2003, killing all seven astronauts on board. Jerry Seinfeld once joked about how his technophobe parents refused to use the new TV he bought them for fear the remote would set the drapes on fire. Check with them again, Jerry. If you can catch them away from the computer. A new Ipsos-Reid Corp. survey made public Monday reveals the use of Internet by people age 55 and older has increased 12 per cent from the period last year. According to the poll, six out of every 10 people in Canada in that age group have Internet access, up from 48 per cent in 2003. Though well below the 86 per cent of people 54 and younger who go online, the growth rate of older Internet users is four times that of the younger group, which grew from 83 to 86 per cent in the same time period. "That (growth) doesn't surprise me at all," said Steve MacCharles, corporate sales manager at CompuSmart Vancouver. "In the last couple of years, we've noticed older people, (aged) 60-plus, buying computers at a greater rate." Daken Ariel, owner of Coastway System Technology, said in the past three weeks his company has done upgrades for two customers aged 70 and 72, and installed a new system for a 79-year-old woman. Ipsos-Reid surveyed 1,000 Canadians for these findings, 151 of whom fell in the 55-plus category. There was no breakdown into sub-groups, to compare, say, Internet access by people in their late 50s compared with use by those in their 70s. "We've always found that older Canadians are slow to adopt Internet service," said Rhys Gibb, senior research manager at Ipsos-Reid's Vancouver office. "They are less likely to be online in the first place, they're less likely to use high-speed service, and once they're online they're less likely to take part in specific online activities. "What we're seeing here is they're really closing the gap." In terms of Internet activities, 55-plus users lagged behind under-54s in online shopping, real-estate searches and online banking. The one area where seniors were more active than younger users was in online investments. Those 55 and older reported 13 per cent activity in buying and selling investments, compared with 12 per cent for those younger than 55. Asked to explain the jump, Gibb said some of it may be attributed to parents using their teenagers' computers, but "we wouldn't expect that there would be a very large demographic shift in that group, so we wouldn't expect that to have driven the change." Coastway's Ariel suggests one area that has spiked computer usage among seniors. "The primary motive for a lot of seniors is to keep in touch with family who live a distance away," Ariel said. The survey, which was conducted between June 25 and July 18, is considered accurate to within three points, 95 per cent of the time. Like I said, I think they have a whole topic there (at n e o w i n) devoted to the LH transformation pack. Here it is: http://www.neo-win.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=75768 REMOVE THE DASH BETWEEN NEO AND WIN (msfn blocks that word, so I have to put a space)

Try the n-e-o-w-i-n site, I think that's where they developed the thing.

help:: how to set the bg color of HTML files in IE
nolookingca replied to chee's topic in Windows XP
you could achieve a "system" where every page is loaded from a frame in another page. That "launch" page has two frames: content and a nav. bar. This basic part can be found on javascriptsource.com The more complex part is that every time someone clicks on the "go" button (the one in the navbar frame), the page is launched and a javascript overlay (think of those js ads that popup blockers doesn't stop). The overlay, which will have a close button and a grey background, will fill most of the screen. When you see actual content along the edges, you can click on the close button and the page will be sort of "pre-loaded" manually Hope this isn't too confusing. P.S. The only downside to this is that some sites have a frame detection method and will pop out of the frame. (They do it to avoid being "trapped" in other people's frames, which can lead viewers to think that the content belongs to someone else) -
IF you're doing a CD, don't expand the files. Otherwise, follow the expanding instructions. You must keep the original file name except for the extension. e.g. expand sfc_os.dl_ sfc_os.dll

No offense to all Sun JVM users (including me), but the applets load awfully slow AND one of the website I frequently visit just happen to have a java newsflasher (annoying, isn't it? )
-
is it for IE, or is it more "global" (whole Microsoft® Windows ) P.S. YAY! I got the trademark right
-
Typical M$. I do know it DOES work on a buggy system with SP2, so That's probably it.
-
@benjammin: If you're doing that, it's best that you apply the file after you install SP2. Instructions are repeated quite frequently in this topic. Thanks for that XPero. I always had that feeling that I forgot something. @benjammin again: The theme thing probably has something to do with the uxtheme file. @dkreifus: You have to download the file pack at the bottom of the first post. Remember the reg stuff for termsrv (reg patch attached to first post) and sfc_os (which I forgot to include, instructions available at top of first post) Sorry for the comfusion, but I am working on a good readme and better formatted post.

I think I made a mistake with the invite. gtg
