  1. ... For dummies ... exactly for me Thanks a lot, I will test it out and report here. (because ReactOS should run in Qemu)
  2. @ starcraftmaster : Virtual PC 5.1 works, but networking is buggy and the virtual machine (XP) has no internet access. Or am I doing something wrong? And Qemu has no GUI.
  3. That is like buying a new car when the old one is broken and I know it worked at one point ... Eh ? Install drivers for which device ?
  4. read speeds via Total Commander and BT software mainboard with P31 chipset, should be supported through nUSB
  5. Hello there ! I have some speed issues with my USB devices : PMP Archos 504 - no problems - transfer speed ca 6'000 kB/s ext. 3.5" USB HDD - no problems - transfer speed ca 30'000 kB/s GPS Garmin nüvi 250W - speed issue - transfer speed ca 30 kB/s BT Belkin F8T012 - speed issue - transfer speed ca 5 kB/s And now, where is the catch? I have nUSB v 3.3 installed, the non-extra version. I think it might be in the versions of the drivers but I dont know, which one is the proper one. I will make screenshots, if you want me to. I wouldnt mind, if the speed was at least USB 1.1, but those speeds make the BT and GPS unusable and transferring anything through those devices gives me enough time to make a cup of coffee and drink it. Any ideas are welcome!
  6. Mine : C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\E52EBYNK\66T5GMED\Offline Registry : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\G13?:8<02 1Żč, CC 0C F2 CC
  7. What about a video file that is over 4GBs ? Shouldnt be a problem to create one that big.
  8. Im using Belkin F8T012, with only a slight problem. Since I got a new motherboard with P31 chipset and ICH7 southbridge, the transfer speed is only around 5kB/s. (card reader tranfer speed : 30kB/s) That might be due to wrong USB drivers. But that seems weird since my MP3 player with 2,5" HDD in it has speeds at around 5500kB/s.
  9. Mine : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\G13?:8<02 1Żč, CC 0C F2 CC WGA in Win98 ? NO WAY !!!
  10. Before I started installing stuff, I got up to 1159MB of RAM visible to Windows, but I dont need that much anyway since I only surf on the internet, use ICQ, Office and watch TV. The "real limit" in W9x OSes are system resources and they cannot be raised, so I dont care about the amount of free RAM, since 765MB is more than enough for my purpose ...
  11. Thanks for your tips gentlemen, limiting RAM worked. Office 2000 installed. B) System.dat 5257 kB, User.dat 845 kB SYSTEM.INI : [386Enh] MaxPagingFileSize=786432 MaxPhysPage=30000 (765MB RAM) [vcache] MinFileCache=3000 MaxFileCache=200000 I am not sure, if all entries are relevant, but it works (command prompt as well) and that is what counts.
  12. AUTOEXEC.BAT : mode con codepage prepare=((852) C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\ega.cpi) mode con codepage select=852 keyb cz,,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\keybrd2.sys CONFIG.SYS DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.EXE /MAX=1186816 /NUMHANDLES=64 /METHOD:FAST /VERBOSE DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\setver.exe device=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\display.sys con=(ega,,1) Country=042,852,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\country.sys That means they are practically empty, the only difference is the himem.exe line, that is needed because I have 2GB of RAM.
  13. Hello there, Im having the same problem with registry, except mine collapses with 4,2MB. Therefore I cannot install Office or anything else. I was lucky to get my sound adapter working after deleting sound presets that were written in the registry (2MB !) After bootscreen WIN shows blinking cursor and resets. Safe mode doesnt work and speaks about not enough memory. scanreg /fix and /opt didnt make a difference. installed : Nvidia display driver Flash Shockwave WMP 9 Bluetooth software 48bit LBA ICQ 5 Java 5.0 IE 6 SP1 98 SE SP1 nUSB Sound Blaster drivers + mixer only XviD codec current registry sizes : system.dat 4189kB user.dat 629kB
  14. But they do not support 7xxx series. (at least officially) So the question still is : what was the fiddling about?
  15. @ Multibooter : Could you please share your 77.72 driver? Thanks.
  16. @ T.N.G.O.G. : I used drivers on XRayers Win98 support homepage. And this is also interesting, as Multibooter says, he has no shutdown problems. How did he modify his driver?
  17. I have just tried my sisters PCI-E graphic card Gigabyte GV-NX85T256HP and it didnt work for me. GC itself was found and installed in device manager properly but after the restart, the system hung with protection error message. I havent tested anything else. If you have ideas, write them down, I am open to any suggestions. My Leadtek 7900GS Extreme works OK. (Windows protection error. You have to restart PC.)
  18. The last working version should be CZDC++ 0.403 .
  19. Ill give it a try definitely, I just wanted to know if someone has some experience with it first.
  20. I can send you the INFs I use, just send me a PM with your mail or ICQ. External SATA/PATA controllers do always work. IAA doesnt work od 856PE chipset, look here.
  21. But it will at least remove all registry keys that the program has written in it, is that true? Yeah I did that some time ago, but didnt exactly know, wheater the registry keys belong to one or other program. So I rather use a program that remembers that for me.
  22. @ xrayer : I also have a 500GB SATA harddrive from WD a dont get any BSOD. Maybe its the problem wih i945 chipset, I have only i865PE. But I have also the issue with IDE/combined mode (called compatible in my BIOS). I can only use 2 channels - IDE+IDE or IDE+SATA, if I use enhanced mode, Windows hangs during bootup. I dont know where the problem is, but as I replaced my old 120 + 80 GB drives with a 500GB one, I no longer need to think about it.
  23. Thanks for the link. I followed the thread, but as I remember, the topic was about compacting the registry... What do you think about Total Uninstall?
  24. Is it possible to prevent some program from writing into the system registry? Would setting the files System.dat and User.dat as read-only help? I made a fresh install of Win98 and dont want to get my registry size up to 8,76MB as in the previous Win98 system by only trying some programs. (that write their info into the registry and dont erase it) Some time ago, Ive heard about "Total Uninstall". I downloaded it, but never used it really. Have you experience with it? Or do you recommend me another solution? Tell me your opinions!
