  1. Despite reports indicating that Microsoft Corp. was planning to allow users with pirated copies of Windows XP to install Service Pack 2, the company has confirmed to eWEEK.com that this will not be the case. "Recent press reports indicating Windows XP Service Pack 2 will install on pirated or illegal copies of Windows XP are not entirely true," said a Microsoft spokesperson. "Instead, prior to installing, SP2 will check the OS' product ID [PID] against a list of known pirated PIDs. If a PID is found to be invalid, SP2 will not install." This behavior is essentially similar to that of Windows XP SP1. read the entire story here ; eWeek article site *just thought some of you would find this interresting Moved from General Conversation, MSNwar.
  2. hi, I keep running across screenshots of people that have their windows look like this; (metalic window- I think it rocks ) Is this some sort of theme people are using ? Or is it the default luna Theme with a few tweaks or modifications ? Anyway I searched for it on the internet and couldn't find anything, does any know where or how I can get the same visual effect ?
  3. WOW look at that.....................still no SP2 release Any news available when the release will be ?
  4. It seems what you need isn't an unattended XP cd, You'ld be better of with cloning/backup software such as norton ghost or Powerquest deploycentre. Norton ghost or Powerquest will take up about 15 minutes to restore your entire windows installation including additional software like office, games and other 3rd company apps (provided you have a extra partition with enough space). Unattended xp cd is a great concept, but I believe clone/backup software is a better alternative to suit your situation. regards......
  5. use this one; the cathalyst driver pakage contains a setup.exe and a issetup.exe the last one worked for me
  6. I did the following and everything worked out fine: In cmdlines.txt I added the following: So I didn't run it from a batch file but directly from the cmdlines.txt, I experienced some trouble to when running from a batch file. I didn't have no rights either, this way fixed the problem. try if this works for you....
  7. hi, I had the same problem with diskeeper. the following switch works with *.msi files msiexec /i "Diskeeper.msi" INSTALLDIR="D:\Program Files\Diskeeper" /qn find out if winamp has a msi file greetz
  8. try adding the following under the unattended section in your winnt.sif [unattended] AutoActivate=Yes If you already activated the cd key once, it should give no problems. If the key is black listed I give it little chance...... hope it works for you..... greetz
  9. hi, I'm currently making a network unattend install. I needed the following things ; 1. a WinPE boot cd (not BARTPE) 2. a DHCP server. 3. a file server. I needed to do the following; step 1: create a windows distribution share on your file server with setupmanager (found in deploy.cab) this will extract the I386 folder. In this folder place your $oem$ folder with all the tweaks and 3rd company apps. step 2: adjust the unattended.bat that the setupmanager generated for you. mine currently looks like this ; *notice the /makelocalsource, this will copy the install files over to the destination computer before it begins installation, this way networktraffic is reduced. This can be handy when dealing with multiple computers that you want to install. the EXIT command on the last line is also required to make winPE reboot. step 3: by this time your distribution share should look like this: 1 folder named i386 (this would contain your $oem$ folder) 1 file named unattend.txt 1 file named unattend.bat now boot the destination computer up with the WinPE cd... step 4: after booting the dhcp server assign an ip adress dynamically, and then give you full controll of the command line. type the following on the command line ; net use x: \\servername\distributionfoldername servername = name of your file server (find out what yours is) distributionfoldername= the folder that contains the i386 folder.(by default "windist") step 5: then switch to x: (or a letter you might have used in the net use command) step 6: type the following ; unattend.bat step 7: sit back and watch your installation run over the network I hope this helps you in some way................... PM me if you got any questions. greetz
