  1. MagicAndre1981---I removed Bitdefender and installed Avast. The blank screen time decreased about 11 seconds but other times increased. The total boot time is still about 75 seconds. If I copy My Documents, Favorites, Music, Pictures etc to a flash drive, and then do the procedure to RESTORE THE COMPTER TO ITS ORIGINAL STATE" when I bought it about 6 months ago, then get all the Microsoft updates, then re-install everything---do you think that will fix whatever is taking the computer so long to boot. Like I said before the computer USED to boot in about 45 seconds. Thanks, Mike
  2. Here is the link, I hope. Mike http://www.mediafire.com/download/9ot5d936twrv5mc/boot_BASE_CSWITCH_DRIVERS_POWER_1.zip
  3. Not having much success. I click on MORE REPLY OPTIONS, then I chose BROWSE at the lower left. Then I found the file, selected it, I then saw the file listed in the box at the left of BROSWE, and then I clicked on ATTACH FILE. After about a minute, I get a message that "No file was selected to upload" What am I doing wrong ? Mike
  4. MagicAndre1981. Here is the file...I hope. Mike
  5. jaclaz---I followed the instructions, and got three files in that TEMP file. When I open them I have no idea what they all mean. That info is way above me. Thanks anyhow.
  6. I have a 6 month old Dell OptiPlex 9010 Desktop running Win 8.0 I also downloaded Startisback. It has a Core I7 3770, 3.5 GHZ processor and 8 gig of memory. The computer used to boot in about 45 seconds. A few weeks ago it started taking 75 seconds to boot. After I push the start switch, it takes 8 seconds, then I see the Dell Logo. At 24 seconds I get a blank screen. at 47 seconds I get the Welcome message. at 55 seconds the desktop starts to load. at 75 seconds the desktop is finished. I checked Task manager, and the only thing that is enabled at startup is my antivirus (Bitdefender) On a weekly basis I run a full antivirus scan, along with CCleaner, and Malwarebytes. Then I run that defrag. The computer is clean. Then when I first go to my Internet Home page it takes another 10 seconds to load that. After that the computer is very fast. Opening any other web page, or programs is just about instant. Any suggestions on the slowdown ? My wifes computer about 3 months old and boots much faster and it only has the I3 processor. Thanks, Mike
  7. Yes it is an IMAP folder, but they do not get deleted when I close the program.
  8. I have a computer that has Outlook 2007 on it. When I click on the email message (some of them) and then click on the big "X" at the top, that normally deletes them, they are not being deleted of the page. They just get a line through them. This only happens to some of them. Any suggestions please, Mike
  9. Tripredacus.....I was unable to furnish a screen shot, because I did not have any email program setup yet. But all is now fine. I deceided to do that "Restore to factory condition" It took about 4 hours to do. However to my surprise, I still had those 5 partitions. I and others thought the computer would be set back to exactly as when I got it. Anyway, I downloaded Acronis to try to fix the partitions. When it was installing, I got a message that said it was not compatable with "dynamic discs" whatever that meant. Then I downloaded EASE US. That worked great. I was able to merge the five partitions to just one. I know I probably have set up two. but I did not want to press my luck. Happy camper, Mike
  10. OK, will try to furnish a screenshot this evening. Mike
  11. truexfan81---Thanks for the reply, but now I have a problem. I deceided to download Paragon Manager 2013 (free). instead. it seemed to go OK, but I never really saw a huge increase in the one partition, so I kept trying a few times, and now I have everything messed up. If I look at MY COMPUTER, I see 4 drives. Gateway © 189 GB free of 224 GB, Data (D) 8.47 MB free of 101MB and this drive is in RED. then I see New Volume (E) 54.7 GB free of 54.7 GB, and last I see New Volume (F) 30.0 GB free of 30.1 GB If I add those drives up, I do not even come close to 500 GB. If I look in Disc Management, I see several items. And I always see an Unallocated partition. I would then click on it and tell it to open or whatever, then I would try to repartition it etc, It seems like I just kept making things worse. Anyway, is there a way to get back to the original state of the computer ?? If I did that system restore to its original state as when I bought it (a week ago) would the drives be fixed, or would they still be messed up. HELP, Mike
  12. I am setting up a friends new computer running Windows 8. For some reason the 500Gig hard drive has two (250 Gig) partitions "C" and "D". Can I easily extend the main partition that has the operating systen on, to maybe 450 Gig within Windows 8 itself, and leave the other partition at 50 Gig, or do I need to use another program ?? I believe I have an older copy of Acronis Disc Director somewhere. Would that work easier, or can I do it just using Disc Management within Windows 8 ?? Thanks , Mike
  13. Thanks jaclaz for the reply and links to read, but I am not sure I understand what I read. First of all, I have never BOOTED from a flash drive. Not sure how to do that. I am confused about the part that FAT 32 will only host 4GB at most, because I have a 16 Gig flash drive that I know I have saved files to that were larger than 4 Gig. As far as the drive wearing out quicker if you format it as NTSF probably does not matter much as I only used these drives maybe once a week or less. With that said, I guess I should format them as NTSF in the future ?? Thanks
  14. Should a flash drive be formatted in Fat32, which I think is the default, or should it be formatted as NTSF ?? Or doesn't it really matter. Thanks, Mike
  15. Just an update---After experimenting with Windows Movie Maker, I found out that I can edit / remove middle sections from the movie by using the SPLIT function.
  16. I have a 35 minutes video on my computer that I need to delete some sections. For example I might need to delete starting at minute 5 through minute 7. Then the video is OK until I get to say minute 23 and I want to delete minutes 23 through 28. I do NOT need anything fancy. I will NOT be enhancing anything. I just need to delete or remove a few sections from the video, and then burn it to a DVD. I have Nero 12 for the burning portion, but I need something simple to delete a few sections. I had tried FREE VIDEO DUB. It sounded exactly what I was looking for, but when I would stop and start the program, the audio did not match the video. I read about Movie Maker that is built right into Windows 8, that I am using, but that program seems to only be able to remove the beginning or end of the video, not sections in the middle. Any suggestions. I was going to download a free trial of Cyberlink Power Director 12 Deluxe, but it says that it puts a watermark at the beginning for 5 seconds. Thanks for any suggestions, Mike
  17. Fixed...I wiped the Seagate External hard drive with a progrm called Wipe Drive Pro. Then I reformatted and partitioned the drive. All is well now. No more messages from Action Center.
  18. When i connected my Seagate external hard drive to my Win 8 computer, I got a popup message from ACTION CENTER that said there was a problem with the drive, and that i should scan it for errors. So I clicked on the box and scanned it. Then i was told to restart the computer to repair the drive, or something like that. Well, I restarted the computer, but when I connected the Seagate again, I got the message from Action center to restart the computer to repair the drive etc . I tried this a few times, same message. I have since done a long format on the drive, downloaded and ran Sea Tools from Seagate. The drive comes up OK, no problems, but when I connect it to my computer, I get the same message to restart my computer etc. I then connected the drive to another computer also running Windows 8, same message etc. I then connected the drive to two other computers running Windows 7....NO messages from these computers running Windows 7. The drive seems to have two partitions. One is very small that says something like Diags 36 meg. The other partition says primary or something with 380 Gig. Help, suggestions please.
  19. OK, update. I got all the Windows updates. Downloaded Microsoft Security Essential and ran it. It only took an hour and 15 minues, compared to several hours before and I stopped it before it was even 25% complete. I then downloaded Malwarebytes and ran it. It ran and completed in under an hour, versus the days it took before to run. So, the Recovery which started with a Format, must have cleaned out whatever was causing the excessive scan times before. I have also scanned the flash drive where I copied the documents, music, pictures, videos etc. from the infecteed computer with MSE, Bitdefender, and Malwarebytes. Bitdefender did find an item but removed it. So all is good. Thanks again for all suggestions. Mike
  20. jaclaz ---Thanks for the explanation. This is my plan. I have already copied my documents, music, pictures, favorites, videos, and email from the still infected (I think) computer to a flash drive. Last night I booted to that recovery program that restores the computer to its factry state. All went well so far. Tonight if I have time, I will get all the Windows updates, and install Microsoft Security Essentials, and Malwarebytes. Then I will do a FULL scan with MSE and MB to see if it still takes days to complete. If these scans only take 1-2 hours, which it should instead of days, then I can feel confident I have removed all problems from the computer. Then I will re-install the documents, music, pictures email, etc AFTER I have scanned them with Bitdefender and Malwarebytes on a clean computer. I will then post back with the NEW scan times. Thanks again to everyone who offered suggestions, Mike
  21. jaclaz---Now I am confused. My original question was if I booted the computer to the recovery program that restores the computer to its original factory state, would all viruses, trojans, malware be wiped. "X" replied in post #2, that there are two types of recovery, destructive and non-destructive, and if I did the former I would be "fine" You replied in post # three, that "that may depend .......etc, So, that I completely understand.I ask again. If I boot to the recovery partition, or whatever it is called, where I have the option to restore the computer to its factory state, (which I believe starts with a format) will the computer be cleaned of any viruses, trojans. malware etc. I was unclear with the replies, so that is why I asked about running Wipe Drive Pro.Thanks, Mike
  22. jaclaz, I tried that Combofix you suggested. It only found 4 tracking coookies. I am just about ready to do a system recovery. I found out how to make the system recovery discs, so now I feel safe running that program I have called Wipe Drive Pro. That program should wipe the entire HD clean. I have the option to do 7 passes, but usually one pass is sufficient. As I said above, everything seems normal, but there has to still be a problem that Malwarebytes takes several hours to run, and when I tried to run MSE with a Full scan, it was only about 10 % complete after 8 hours. So it is probably best I wipe the entire HD and reinstall everything for my friend. Thanks again, Mike
  23. Thanks X and jaclaz for the replies. I am not convinced I need to restore the OS yet as everything is now working great after running several scan with Avast, MSSS, Malwarebytes, CCleaner etc. The only problem is that when I try to run a FULL scan of anything it takes days to complete. The QUICK scans go ok, maybe ten or fifteen minutes, but not the fULL scans. I might start another post and start from the beginning. Thanks, Mike
  24. I am working on a friends computer that is badly infected with everything. If I boot to the recovery program where I can restore the computer to its original factory state. will the hard drive be wiped clean of all viruses, trojans, root kits etc. ?? I do not have the Windows 7 discs, so I can't run a program to clean the hard drive because I am afraid it will also wipe out the recovery partition. Thanks, Mike
