  1. I have been using Paragon 2013 Backup and Restore, the free version, for several months now. I usually make a complete computer backup to an external hard drive on a monthly basis. I just noticed that there is an option to create a Recovery Disc, so I just made one. Question....do I have to make a recovery disc every month when I make a backup ?? Probably not, but when would suggest I make one ?? Thanks, Mike
  2. Thanks guys for the replies. Nice to know its not my problem. As you said, hopefully Microsoft will fix it in the next release or so. Mike
  3. Thanks guys for the replies. That "Welcome to the Insiders screen" in now gone, and I do not have to enter a password. However right before it loads the desktop, where I used to see one image, the welcome and my email address etc, I now get two images ?? Not a big deal. I think maybe that AUTOLOGIN caused it, but I can't find it anywhere to delete it. Probably a registry entry. Thanks again, Mike
  4. MagicAndre1981---Thanks for the reply. Concerning the first question. I did as you said, right click on desktop, personalize, change desktop settings. At the top there were five items. Computer, User Files, Network, Recycle Bin, and Control Panel. Computer and Recycle Bin were already checked. Lower down in another box I saw, This PC, Mike, Network, and Recycle bin. At the bottom of the page I saw. Allow themes to change desktop icons. There was a check in the box in front of this statement. What should I change ?? Thanks, Mike
  5. I just downloaded and installed build 9926. All went well, I thought. When the computer boots up, the desktop now says. Welcome to the Windows Insider Program. Check out the Insider Hub. It also gives the time and date. If I click the mouse, it then goes to MY desktop. Question #1..Can I get the computer to boot right to MY desktop ? At the end of the installation it asked me for my Microsoft Account number, which I typed in. Now after it boots up, I need to enter that Account number to get into Windows 10. I looked in SETTINGS, SIGN IN OPTIONS, CHANGE PASSWORD, etc. but it seems all I can do is just CHANGE the password. I do not want to CHANGE my Microsoft Account password. so, Question #2. How can I get around having to type in that password all the time. There was a way to do it in Windows 8, but I forgot. Thanks, Mike
  6. Update. Not working too good yet. It lists two of everything in ALL PROGRAMS.
  7. Startisback seems to work on the latest Win 10 preview (9879) Just downloaded it, and it is working fine. I have it on my Win 8.1 computer and there was a 3 or 4 dollar charge for two computers back then, which I paid. There was no mention of a fee this time when I downloaded it on another test computer with Win 10.
  8. Thanks for the reply Ponch, but there was no folder like scanpst.exe anywhere on the computer. I was also having other issues with the computer especially Internet Explorer, so I reimaged Windows 8.1 Everything seems to work great now, but I need to get his name and password for his email, and then I can set that up also. Thanks again.
  9. submix8c, Thanks for the links, but nothing works. I can not find either SCANPST.EXE or SCANDISK.EXE. anywhere. I even searched for it by typing it in the SEARCH item box etc. If I follow the link I posted in post #1, it leads me to the following 7 items Under Outlook , Last sharing with 2KB, Extend with 1 KB, Install-top with 1 KB, Outlook Microsoft Office Outlook Folder with 161,466 KB, Outlook sharing a OPI file with 2 KB, and Outlook.xml.kfl a KFL file with 1 KB. I can easily try these two ideas. Upgrade to Office 2010. or save that Outlook file with the 161,466 Kb to a flash drive, then delete Mocrosoft Office 2007, and then reinstall it. And then copy that Outlook folder back. Would you suggest any of these ideas ?? Thanks Mike
  10. Update. I checked the message I get. It says "CANNOT OPEN YOUR DEFAULT E-MAIL FOLDERS" This message is right before the C:/Users/Willard, etc. I looked at your links, but just quickly. I was hoping this NEW / ADDED info. would help.
  11. I never got a reply to the IMAP question, as you can see if you look at the postings. The second question was never resolved here. I must have found a way to fix it somewhere, do not remember. Yes, the emails did work before. not sure when the PST files came into existence.
  12. When I try to open Outlook 2007 to get my e-mails, I get this message. C"/users/Willard/appdata/local/Microsoft/outlook/outlook.pst is not a personal folder file. Suggestions on how to fix this, please. Can I just reinstall Outllook 2007 (or Microsoft Office 2007) Thanks.
  13. For about the last ten days or so, I have been getting this message "Your Imap Server Closed the Connection" Then there are two boxes, OK, and Details. Under this there are two additional messages. Cannot display the folder, Cannot connect to the server. If I click on the OK a few times, all is well. I can send and receive messages. But sometimes I need to close Outlook and restart it. This Imap message usually appears when I first open Outlook, although it has happened when I opened a different folder, after outlook was already open. I called to my Internet provider and they tell me all the settings are fine, that it is an Outlook problem. I googled the message, and tried several of the fixes, but no luck. I even did that REPAIR to Office 2010, still no luck. Any suggestions ?? I am condidering upgrading to Microsoft Office 2013, which has Outlook 2013...would that correct my problem for sure, or could I still have the same message about IMAP closing the connection etc. Thanks, Mike
  14. FIXED !!!! I put Windows Boot Manager as first boot device, and all is well now. Mike
  15. I recently upgraded my Dell computer and my wife's computer from 8.0 to 8.1 without a problem. I offered to do the same upgrade from 8.0 to 8.1 on a friends 7 month Gateway tower SX2370-UR13. Everything went as expected. It took at least an hour to Download, then it did the Setup, and Gathering info etc. The it told me I had to Restart the computer, so I clicked on the RESTART box. When the computer came back up I get this message "REBOOT ANDSELECT PROPER BOOT DEVICE, OR INSERT BOOT MEDIA IN SELECTED DEVICE AND PRESS ANY KEY" Now what ? What BOOT media, I do not have the Windows 8 disc as it was pre-installed. If I press Control, Alt, Delete, the computer restarts, but the same message comes up. If I press any other key, I get a duplicate of the same message. If I manually shut down the computer, by pressing the OFF key etc. and waiting a few minutes, when I press the button to start, it comes back to the same message. I tried booting into SAFE MODE, no luck. I canget into SETUP, but what would I do then. Please help. I thought I was doing my friend a favor, now I have it messed up. If I look in the Bios, Boot options, the first boot device is the hard drive, the second boot device is Windows boot manager, and the third boot device is the hard drive again. Suggestions please. Mike
  16. I am working on a friends older Toshiba running Vista. It was full of viruses, that I was slowly able to get rid of. However, I can not get on the internet. Usually when I m working on a friends computer, I just connect another Ethernet cable to the computer from my router, but nothing. The computer also has a Wi-Fi built in, so I tried to connect wireless. It did connect to my network after I gave it the password etc. but it tells me that it is a LOCAL CONNECTION ONLY. How do I fix that, and get it to connect totally ?? Thanks, Mike

    When to update

I agree. That is why I have been waiting so long to update to 8.1 Hopefully by now, most of the issues have ben worked out. The only reason I am thing about updating now is because I often get that message that "Internet explorer has stopped" etc. for various reasons. I am hoping with IE11 that problem will be gone.

    When to update

Thanks truexfan81 for the reply. I did not know that. Mike
  19. I am currently running Windows 8.0 I never updated to Windows 8.1 Now I believe that Win 8.1 Update will be released on April 8th as an Automatic Update, you will NOT need to go to the Windows Store to get it. So, a few questions...should I update to 8.1 now, and then get the update next week, and do it in steps, or is the Win 8.1 update all inclusive, and I should just wait for it to be released next week sometime. I guess I should also change how I get updates. Probably change it to, Notify me, but not download or install etc. Thanks, Mike
  20. Thanks guys for the replies. Here is what I did. Yesterday I saved that PROFILE1 folder to a flash drive, just in case. Then I deleted it from the computer, which put the folder in the recycle bin. All was good so far. This morning after reading your two posts, I felt comfortable that I could delete the folder from the Recycle bin, so I removed the folder, then rebooted the computer. All seems fine so far, so I guess I am OK. I normally backup the whole computer to an external hard drive using Paragon on a monthly basis . but then I also like to backup , My Documents, My Music, Pictures, and Favorites to a 64 Gig flash drive. Those four folders now fit on the flash drive , now that the Profile1 folder is gone. Thanks, again, Mike
  21. I just noticed a folder in MY DOCUMENTS called PROFILE1. It was created back in early October. If I click on that folder, it breaks down to about 20 items labeled as Profile1_FFB_0001 INP, then Profile 1_FFB_0002 INP. it goes up to 20 I think. Each of these smaller items is over 665,000 meg. If I click on any of these smaller items, I am told that it could not be opened etc. The whole folder is over 14 Gig. I think it might have something to do with a DELL BACKUP, but I do not remember doing a Dell Backup, but I might have. I know back in February I made a Dell recovery DVD. Question...what is this folder for, and can I safely delete it. 14 Gig is a lot of wasted space if not needed. I also do a backup to an external hard drive using Paragon on a monthly basis. Running Windows 8 on a Dell OptiPlex 9010. Thanks, Mike
  22. MagicAndre1981. I just sent you a PM. Mike
  23. Ok, here is the latest trace. I stopped my Antivirus for 10 minutes, and then the file uploaded as it should. Thanks, Mike http://www.mediafire.com/download/uh3wj0bkmow7k25/boot_BASE_CSWITCH_DRIVERS_POWER_1(9).zip
  24. I can't upload the file this time. I tried several times. It tells me it is uploading, it reached 100%, then it tells me it is Verifying the file for integrity. Then it starts all over again. I even reinstalled Mediafire, but same result. It never uploads to Mediafire. Mike
