  1. Yeah, a closer look reveals that it cannot serch within PDF document. That's the only option I use in addition to simple viewing. Dumped Foxit
  2. Thanks for the tip! I'll probably dump Adobe Reader in favor of Foxit. I view the text based pdf files only anyway.
  3. Thanks for the correction, prathapml. I misunderstood the initial question. My answer relates to the User Shell Folders, and would be valid in a case when someone wants, say, to stick with the profile stored in C:\Documents and Settings\, but have My Documents folder with all precious and multi-GB data on another logical or physical drive.
  4. Look into this registry thread HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell FoldersAfter configuring the folders as you like, just export the thread, and then import it during the install. Certainly, the target drive should exist on the PC where you perform the installation.
  5. You can cache the installation files on the HDD. Configurable via setup.ini. Check out this article. I just don't remember whether you can specify caching options via transorm. Could be possible.
  6. MCT Your question has me ;-) I don't know the answer, but would like to know it too I was messing with desk.cpl, but could figure out how to launch the theme. This page has a reference on Control Panel applets. It even has a command for installing the screensaver rundll32.exe desk.cpl,InstallScreenSaver "File"I tried to use a similar command with InstallTheme (just off the top of my head), but no go ;-) I know regional settings can be set from rundll32.exe shell32,Control_RunDLL intl.cpl,,/f:"c:\regopts.txt", but I don't know where to find the info on the switches either.
  7. Right-click, "view page info" will tell you those details. Mmmm... not sure it'll work in IE or Opera ;-) Could you please tell me how to see the same info in IE, for instance?
  8. A minor design addition... I think it'd be nice to have "last updated (or last modified) <date>" on every page.
  9. Thanks for your replies, guys. Before asking, I looked into the svcpack.inf and svcpack dir, and observed exactly what RyanVM says. Sorry, i should've mentioned that, but your posts will serve as an extended explanation of the /integrate switch. I just needed the clarification like and I got it
  10. Ok, I think this is what it is. At least, I couldn't find anything more relevant to SP2. The Guide for Installing and Deploying Updates for Microsoft® Windows® XP Service Pack 2 The quote doesn't say particularly about XP SP2, but the document title does.
  11. I saw your svcpack.inf in the sticky thread. It didn't have qchain.exe line in the svcpack.inf [setupHotfixesToRun]. Is it not needed when the /integrate switch is used? Sorry, not sure what thread to choose for the question (this one or the sticky).
  12. Yeah, make sure you replace all RTFM and STFW with the blanks before publishing the pages
  13. I can make a guide on manual slipstreaming of SP2. Anyway, I have it in Russian. Actually, I have it two ways: with extracting and direct integration. The latter is enough, I think. I can redo the screenshots to remove the signature. The only problem is English is not my native language
  14. True, but people must keep in mind that many apps have been repackaged. Hence, they run without switches in the posted cmd files.
  15. Ok, makes sense. It can go to the Advanced section. I agree that slipstreaming and hotfixes should go to the beginners section anyway, if we define it as a guide for an up-to-date unattended CD. Having such a CD is the major goal of the unattended installation. Confirmed by prathapml's quote above Mmmm... I've never thought of it. Perhaps, tooltips popping up on the menu elements could help a bit. On the other hand, working on them takes some time and not really the priority task.
  16. GreenMachine's explanation of the same stuff.
  17. What's the problem? Make the top menu according to the branches. E.g.: Home, Beginners, Advanced, Experts, Help, Forums. Then Beginners would include: Start Slipstreaming Windows Updates OEM Folders Answer file --winnt.sif --winnt.sif parameters Overview of the batch files Registry tweaks Finalising CD For advanced would be Drivers Applications --GuiRunOnce --RunOnceEx --RunOnceEx from CD and so on... C'mon people, suggest the layouts
  18. prathapml I don't see why the universal slipstreaming guide is needed when the service pack 2 integration can be covered with just one command (I'm sure you know it ;-) Burning CD is the last touch, and the current page with two cmd files is still ok. In addition, the major guide describes mostly manual procedures, and I'd like that way better. Throwing in the nLite utility is not necessary for the manual guide. At least, on such an early stage. Nothing personal against nLite.
  19. Speaking of the offline navigation. The site map may partially solve the problem. It's not really a menu, but still the list of all pages (with links) in an organized order.
  20. Not that I don't trust you guys. I know you've done a very good job. And after reading the guides attached to the first post I appreciate your work even more
  21. This is exactly the reason for my inquiry. I'm using Firefox at work with the installation directory on a drive which has a letter F assigned to it. I'd like to configure FF, sfx the install dir, and then install it on my home PC. I also may need to install it on my friends' PC, and that's where the uninstallation/reinstallation issue described in the third part of the reference e-mail may come into play. If you cannot disclose the web site to public, it's fine. Just PM it to me
  22. I'm with hqdefel. It'd be nice to know site this is about Plz, enlighten us, Astalavista
  23. Referring to the windows timeline, you can install software either at T-12 or at first logon. Not every s/w will install at T-12. I've never tried to install Office at T-12, doesn't look like a good idea to me. Although, it may be possible. If you're having troubles reading the guide in English, try translations to other languages
  24. In addition to info about enabling QuickLaunch, I think it's important to explain how to add shortcuts. Link? http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=33449 - the most recent Perhaps, a mini-FAQ may work for the really frequent questions.
