  1. With Remote app can the application be located somewhere else on the network and just have a shortcut on the TS Remote app server? A lot of the apps I want to allow to be run are on different servers. Just wondered if remote app allows me to use UNC paths .
  2. So Can I use remote apps then? most clients outside of my organization are on either XP or Vista.. So Could I set up a Server 2008 with remote apps and XP and Vista clients could connect?
  3. Thank you very much that is very helpful. We are going to upgrade the whole network to Windows 7 so the 2008 solution looks like the way to go. I found the other options also very interesting and will check them all out.
  4. Hi there I am looking for some kind of free solution or cheap solution to allowing staff at my organisation to remotely access the network and allow them to run certain network apps.. I looked into Virtual network VPN with IPSEC and certificates .. I got it working but it turned out to be too complicated for the general public to configure on their PC's.. In the end I had to give up on that because too many ppl were getting themselves completely stuck with it. I was quite interested in some kind of terminal services solution but I'm not sure how to go about it.. Thing is there are about 50 staff so I don't know how many remote desktops you can have running on a Windows Server 2003 at the same time.. I think we only have about 5 sessions allowed. If I need serious hardware to do this I don't mind spending some cash but I just don't want to be spending loads of money on some 3rd party solution when Windows Server might have it's own solution built in. I'm quite able with technical stuff and networks so I'm up for the challenge.. I also heard something about remote app on Windows server 2008.. That sounds promising but can somebody tell me abit more about that.. ?
  5. Thank you. Here is what I did: Create a script called invisible.vbs: CreateObject("Wscript.Shell").Run """" & WScript.Arguments(0) & """", 0, False wscript.quit Then in the login.bat file I put a command like so: wscript.exe "\\mydomain.local\netlogon\invisible.vbs" "\\mydomain.local\netlogon\loginscript.bat" This is good enough.. It minimizes the logon window and hides it behind the start bar when logging in.. If you have a very fast PC and fast reflexes it is possible to close the window as soon as you log in, but you have to be very determined and quick at it.. Not really a major problem.
  6. Hi, I'm sure somebody must have had this problem before.. I have logon scripts for users and I have managed to minimize them on startup when the user logs in, but I have observed users closing the login window before it's finished. Is there anyway to stop users from being able to close the logon dos window? Thanks
  7. Actually I hadn't fixed the problem but now i have fixed it. It was actually Norton Internet Security Firewall only allowing shared trust to the 3COM Access Point. I change the trust level from shared to full trust and now it works.
  8. Ok I fixed the problem. 1. I changed the wireless mode on the 3COM to repeater mode and selected the same channel as the Wireless router. Now the wireless router has a boosted signal and I can connect to both and remote desktop with either connection. thanks
  9. Sounds like the problem but the 3com access point has very limited options and nothing about isolation mode. IF I connect to my router using it's wireless I am able the ping and connect to the 3Com AP. I checked the settings on my router but couldn't find any isolation options there either.
  10. I have a strange problem with my 3com officeconnect wireless access point. I can connect to it with my laptop and it gives me a valid IP address which included the router as the default gateway so that I can use the net.. But, strangely I cannot remote desktop to my PC's or ping them.. But I can ping the router. My ip address is on the same subnet and is valid.. I tried even using a static address but still cannot ping PC's on my network. Anybody know why?
  11. Hi, I think it's plausible that an organisation would want to be able to allow access to shared folders at given times of the day but I'm unable to find any options in Windows Server 2003 that accomodates this? I'm in an Active Directory environment and simply want to share a folder between say 3pm and 4pm mon-fri Is there a simple way that I'm missing or do I have to start batch file and script writing to achieve my task? Thanks
  12. I believe so yes. Im doing an MC course in AD at the moment and I´m pretty sure that what you said is true.
  13. Have you tried taking PC2 off the domain and resetting the computer account then re joining? same issue...? If its on the domain correctly it shouldnt be asking for credentials if you are a domain admin trying to access the PC... seems very strange.
  14. Hi bit of a problem and i wonder if anybody else can help me. I have a large domain of PC's which are a mixture of XP and Vista I currently have windows Server 2003 as the domain controllers but I'm going to upgrade to a later server soon. Thing is with XP I have forced the luna theme to the users desktops which is fine, but I want users to be able to use the Aero theme on the Vista machines, other wise I get the crappy looking windows classic interface... Is there any way to enforce Aero theme if they log into the vista PCs? I thought about putting the vista PC's in their own OU, but i think the desktop theme policy is a user policy and not a computer policy.. And to make things more difficult, users roam around and log into both XP and vista PC's. And before anybody says about the classic being the best option because Aero hogs resources et etc.. I really dont care about that as these PC's are Quad core with lots of ram and run just fine with the Aero desktop.. hope somebody has a fresh idea of how to get around this problem.
  15. I dont know if this is the same as you but my Dad's PC kept minimizing the IE window to a tiny floating bar and it was really annoying. I fixed it by opening it up to full size and then going to the tools folder options and View and then Apply to all Folders.
  16. Should be there if the PC is on the same domain. I just checked my domain print server and we have some printers with a similar setup to what you are describing, and I can see them when I do a find all.
  17. Wireless speeds can have dramatic differences by changing the channel that the wireless is broadcasting on.
  18. Hi this worked for me SetAcl.exe -on "c:\letts" -ot file -actn ace -ace "n:authenticated users;p:full" for user group "Authenticated users" dont know if thats any help to you.
  19. Hi does anybody know a way of getting Nvidia control panel to see my phillips television all of the time? Its really strange because it has no logic, it just seems to detect the display sometimes but then other times it cant detect the additional display... I am often having to unplug the cables and plug them in again just for the TV to be detected... Surely there is a more efficient way or a bit of decent software out there that can detect the display every time... Just seems a bit hit and miss... I know the TV is connected because like I say it works sometimes and Nvidia detects it, but only when it feels like detecting it, there is no logic to this problem.. anybody experience this before and know a solution? I have a GForce 8800GTX Graphics card 2 DVI inputs, one goes to the LCD and one is converted to HDMI and goes to the Big screen in the living room Thanks
  20. are the DNS settings correct on your router? Do you have a static ip address in your network settings? If you have, try setting that to automatic Make sure DHCP is also switched on in your router config Also if you go to the command prompt, and do an ipconfig /all what is the default gateway? That should be set to your routers ip address... try pinging the default gateway and see if it replies... eg... ping 192.168.1.1 make sure your router is not blocking your mac address.... sometimes they are filtering clients and you need to allow your PC in the router settings.
  21. Try uninstalling SP3... did you create backup files when u installed SP3?
  22. I can tell you what that is, I had a similar issue you need a bigger psu, 650 watt works for me..... I was having that also when I was using a 500w
  23. Maybe that Mapper and linker thing works in most cases, I have read this on a lot of google searches so I think what you say is probably the solution
