Hello All, I installed Windows 2000 Professional SP4, Norton antivirus 2003, Norton personal firewall 2003, after installing the firewall i can't browse the internet at all.... also i went into the rules and permit all , still i can't, its my first time using this firewall....so i think i might be missing one or many things to get going any help? much appreciated Thanks and regards mutahir

Hello All, today i tried to install windows XPSP1 on a new hard drive, the media i used is reliable and licensed. When all the installation was completed, and i poped up taskmanager i saw many diff processess with strange names and the system kept on playing up, windows won't update, norton won't install and so on.... i went into safe mode and used adaware and it seemed a bit stable...but when i logged back on as normal, then norton gave me an alert that system is infected with w32.spyworm.bot virus or worm. my question is : How is it possible that a clean and fresh install of Xp would get affected ......... in this way ? was there anything wrong in the xp os itself ? i am really stuck now and installed win2k professional on another pc which is still having same sort off problems. someone here @ msfn has advised to install the whole system, firewall and antivirus before getting connected to the internet ? any recommendations and suggestions for a painless installation of XP SP1. Thanks and regards mutahir PS : Also when i logged in normal mode, it was popping up banners like universal servers.com eventhough i never visited any website after installation...

Hello Gurgelmeyer, You know, when u can see which Process is associated with which connection or listening to what port on the cmd prompt... i think it tells us which process is connected or is being used by which of our internet application or something like that....it exists i know but iam having problems to explain it i have forgotten that switch......... Thanks to both of you it has worked so far and i just used Adaware SE to kill some adwares in safe mode andjust installed SP4 as well. one question... once on these forums someone told a command line which we can use to see what PID is associated to what program or something like that .. was that a switch in netstat...? i have forgotten.. would be glad if u cud remind me thanks and regards ... Hello All, I have just installed windows2000 professional on my pc, after installing and updating the windows with the given security updates, i restarted the machine, then updated internet explorer, now when i logged back in, Windows update site won't open.... Before installing this I installed XP professional and it did the same, now when i try to install Norton Antivirus it says Windows Installer can't be accessed. Its like the 3rd installation in the day i have done to get either XP or win2k going, In Win XP, Norton was installed and it said the machine is infected with W32 Spy worm.bot or something. i removed all the files but still... Hello All, I installed windows 2000 professional on a new HDD, 20GB Maxtor, from a healthy installation cd. When the installation was finished, i thought of installing the blaster worm patch, but instead of blaster worm activities i found many process listed as ADmangr, ADmankeep, admanstats and many different folders, even though i didn't connected my machine on the internet or had nothing installed apart frm the OS. it also showed me a Power scan thing in the startup and in the program files folder after installation of win 2k profesional. any idea what it is? and how to get rid of this?? I installed service pack 4 straight away from the windows update site but that didn't helped, do i need to install all the service packs one by one or can i install SP4 directly. any help what this admankeep etc. is and how to get rid of it Thanks and regards Mutahir

Hello All, Due to some sensitive data on my external USB Hard disk which is 80GB, i would like to encrypt the whole disk or at least ONE of its Partitions. It has 4 partitions of 20GB. Is there any software (free/paid) through which i can encrypt the disk/partition and on which i can rely atleast that if someone stoles it or connects it it won't let them access that data. Also, how would i decrypt it? do i need to install there software on every machine i wud use my USB 2 HDD ON to access that particular partition. Thanks and regards Mutahir
