hey mrpotter. sorry for late reply u can try this install windows 8 andupdates hotfix and then capture the image without sysperp it now with "whereisit" app start remove manually and carefully whats is duped from the wim image u created [have 2 copies] if u did it with windows 7 u might know how to do it if not u should read more about it and try it on vmware after that install familer apps u might need to see the stability yea its hard work tho now we don't have good app for winsxs removal from windows8 i might public same clg file i gonna create soon

vlite wim filter is different then windows 7 so if u change the image with the new wim filter u gonna have to apply it [ extract ] and then capture it when doing change to image with new wim filter vlite's wim filter getting error handle it

hey theKramer 1. if backup dir is empty its ok 2. u search *.* (mask for all files) on those dirs and then add the files its finds to user list in wheresiti application and then run search those files u add to user list on all image u captured hope it its clear if not let me know

whereisit does it better and faster its work only for winsxs other components that vlite remove it change regs too

What is "whereisit"? Do you mean this - http://www.whereisit-soft.com/? How exactly would that help you "see which files are safe to remove"? I'm confused. Cheers and Regards yea this app u remove with vlite the winsxs and save it clg file with whereisit and have which files can be removed manually however using vlite is much more easier but if u got stuck u can use it this way

winsxs removal with vlite is simple just remove list of files and save 250MB of files to make the setup/installation works well and thats all use whereisit to see which files are safe to remove u may apply it to windows 8 if u know how to use whereisit good

try remove them with 2 steps 30packets at once and other packets later if not helping try save the image before u going to remove the other packets

u can capture the image with gimagex whereisit is not capture application its for make it easier to find files camper and delete its like file explorer that index all the folders and files and make it easy search all HDDs

try using the windows 7 setup files [im not sure if its easy] or request someone to hex it duno about WTK sry or try install it with this method

I'm pretty enjoy windows 8 cant stand metro tho but with explorer7 hack everything is cool the speed and responsive are better, boot time improve too for example changing tabs at Firefox is faster no hicks up no lags however there small gives up like Aero overall its a good upgrade the most changing in this OS is in its core the users wont see them at once

new ? duno if its new but it happened if powercfg h is on and off so i dont think its relate to fast startup when it came from from shutdown its boot little faster

After removing stuff from the wim with Windows ToolKIT B. install it to vhd [vmware or on host] C. run vmware and start the windows 8 from that vhd D. install the dot net 3.5 E.use dism /append-image to capture to same wim u deploy from no need to sysperp win8 using uni drivers [it save time of compressing] F.use the old wim filter to mount the captured image Step 2 - removing manually with whereisit [application google for it ] capture the mounted dir with whereisit start deleting here a list what can be deleted 1.metro apps from program files 2. winsxs\backup dir - *.* 3.winsxs\*.inf* [dirs] notice some of the dirs the search will find not related to drivers files u can delete them but if u can save them 4.nls* files all from 1mb and above[u can delete them all im not sure] 5. run *.* in dirs IME and Speech add the files to user list and search from there to whole clg remove all 6. remove *prn* folders from driverstore folder only 1mb and above 7. remove ttf files from winsxs dir here a footprint example Image Index: 1 ------------------- Name: Enterprise Description: Enterprise Flags: ENTERPRISE Files: 59361 Folders: 14470 Expanded Size: 7742 MB
