  1. Hi, What extra does XP Pro. offers that is not available in XP Home. Will appreciate your reply.
  2. Thanks a lot Oleg I will right away give your above suggestion a try and so how it goes. Can you kindly answer a pretty much related question. I'll be really grateful: I have similar problem with my bootable XP SP2 CD which also does not recognize the SATA harddisk. Will your suggested solution also allow me to make a "slipstreamed" bootable XP CD that will be able to recognize the sata hd? Lots of thanks and I eagerly await your reply.
  3. Hi lego and killer and everyone, Guys I am really getting more & more confused . If someone has a solution, can you just share the url from where I can download the desired slipstreamed ISO BTW, 1) Would Acronis Disk Director Suite v10.0.2160 be equally effective or is 'Acronis True Image Home' a better/newer version 2) Sorry but I am just not getting a hang of this PE Thing Thanks.
  4. Hi jkey, Please promise that you are not joking and that you can really help me here On a serious note, it's just that I am mentally exhausted and had it not been due to help from various folks on the www, I would have totally given up Anyways.... Is the model # good enough or do you want me to dump the results of some utility and copy/paste those? Till your reply below is some information. The bulky part is what I got as a result of running dxdiag command and then saving the results to a text file. I have simply assumed that certain portions might be relevant and am only posting those. Please let me know if you prefer that I use some specific utility and post the results from that. BTW, for such occasions, which utility would you recommend that would extract a summary of the core system components? Laptop is SONY VAIO VGN-FZ140E and below are selective portions from the "dxdiag" command: ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 8/27/2007, 20:37:18 Machine name: Morland Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Sony Corporation System Model: VGN-FZ140E BIOS: Ver 1.00PARTTBL Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7100 @ 1.80GHz (2 CPUs) Memory: 2038MB RAM Page File: 507MB used, 3422MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode .... --------------- Display Devices --------------- Card name: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family Manufacturer: Intel Corporation Chip type: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family DAC type: Internal ... ------------- Sound Devices ------------- Description: SigmaTel Audio Hardware ID: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7662&SUBSYS_104D2300&REV_1002 Manufacturer ID: 1 Product ID: 100 Type: WDM Driver Name: sthda.sys Driver Version: 5.10.5067.0000 (English) Driver Attributes: Final Retail WHQL Logo'd: Yes Date and Size: 5/26/2006 09:59:12, 1177032 bytes Other Files: Driver Provider: SigmaTel ... ------------------------ Disk & DVD/CD-ROM Drives ------------------------ Drive: C: Free Space: 84.3 GB Total Space: 90.2 GB File System: NTFS Model: TOSHIBA MK2035GSS Drive: D: Free Space: 77.2 GB Total Space: 90.2 GB File System: NTFS Model: TOSHIBA MK2035GSS Drive: E: Model: SONY DVD RW AW-G540A Driver: c:\windows\system32\drivers\cdrom.sys, 5.01.2600.2180 (English), 8/3/2004 22:59:54, 49536 bytes -------------- System Devices -------------- Name: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN Device ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4229&SUBSYS_11008086&REV_61\4&227633DA&0&00E2 Driver: n/a Name: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family Device ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A03&SUBSYS_9005104D&REV_0C\3&B1BFB68&0&11 Driver: n/a Name: Mobile Intel(R) PM965/GM965/GL960 Express Processor to DRAM Controller - 2A00 Device ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A00&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_0C\3&B1BFB68&0&00 Driver: n/a Name: Intel(R) ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 2850 Device ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2850&SUBSYS_9005104D&REV_03\3&B1BFB68&0&F9 Driver: C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\pciide.sys, 5.01.2600.0000 (English), 8/17/2001 13:51:52, 3328 bytes Driver: C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\pciidex.sys, 5.01.2600.2180 (English), 8/3/2004 22:59:42, 25088 bytes Driver: C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\atapi.sys, 5.01.2600.2180 (English), 8/3/2004 22:59:44, 95360 bytes ... 5. Hi, You'll probably go after some more silly questions from me Can you please explain what you mean by "Though Ghosting from a 32-bit environment is faster than through a 16-bit environment" Are you recommending a particular version of Norton Ghost or are you comparing some O/S with some other O/S  Thanks for putting up with me ... Will appreciate your reply.
  6. Thanks Iceman. I'll do some reading on the Windows PE forum to "catch up" BTW, is this Windows PE something like a "portable version" of WIndows XP - just like there are so many portable applications available now which do not require any installation and can be run by executing a single file??
  7. Hi Iceman, Thanks for the reply. I think there is a version 12 or something of Norton Ghost out there. You think that will detect the SATA harddisk? or should I consider Acronis' version ??? I am not that much of a techie and therefore please ber with my silly questions belows: Can you please explain what you mean by "or you can use the 32-bit version of Ghost and run it from a PE environment". What do you mean by running it from a PE environment? "PE" ???? Don't know what you mean by "PE" What is Windows PE2 and BartPE ? Sorry if my questions are really silly. I hope you'll reply.
  8. Hi, Background: My laptop has a SATA harddisk and I am already trying to find a solution to somehow make a slipstreamed XP SP2 CD which will contain the drivers for the SATA harddisk. At the moment, when I boot with my XP CD, I end up getting a window with a message saying that no internal harddisk was found (something like this). Request: Once I have solved the above mentioned task, my next task will be to make a bootable/rescue CD of Norton Ghost 9.0 which will also be able to recognize the SATA disk. I have not checked yet but I think my current rescue disk of Norton Ghost 9.0 will also not recognize the SATA harddisk and thus the backup image that I would have created would be of no use... Can someone kindly guide/help me regarding how can I using the "Slipstream using nLite concept" and make a bootable rescue CD of Norton Ghost 9.0 which will be able to recognize the SATA harddisk. I hope my post is clear I'll be very grateful for your kind help. Thanks.
  9. Hi Cluberti. You are an angel I downloaded and installed the Windows Script Host 5.7 package and all my problems related to IE 7 have vanished .. Thank you sooooo much. Regards.
  10. Thanks eyeball and ajcheema, Thanks for the reply. I will try the URL .... however my first task is o somehow find the driver(s) which will allow me to boot with my original XP SP2 CD and be able to recoginze the SATA harddisk... just want to do a fresh installation of windows.. But I do not have a floppy drive?? Also what scares me is that the "tech support guy" has somehow placed the recovery backup for my original Vista and he told me that I can always go back to how things originally were by pressing F10 at the boot time.... I am just too scared to try going back and then not be able to install XP again ; and thus end up visiting the tech support guy again.... just too scared and very much frustrated All the wonderful folks have shared a lot of useful information and links but I am so confused and frustrated right now is that I have no clue where to start from.... I installed Norton Ghost 9 and made a backup image but when I tried to boot with the Norton Ghost bootable CD the same thing...even norton ghost does not seem to find the internal SATA drive (((( Where do I start? I want to 1st take a backup so that taking the worst can, I can always revert backup to the original setting (with that "Vista thing")... Once I have this backup and can verify that I can always boot from some CD and will be able to restore the backed up file, I would then like to do a fresh installation of XP and then take it from there... I even trie Acronis but it's boot disk also did not find the SATA disk... Not sure if anyone can understand my confusion and fustration
  11. Thanks for the reply cluberti. Appreciate it I have just downloaded the file... Am about to run it...let's see what happens
  12. Thanks for the reply. I went to the URL but could not find the "Windows Script Host 5.6 package" despite doing a search and using the entire thing as the keywords to search. Can you please guide what I need to select for the following options in order to get the desired file: Keywords Product/Technology Category Much advance thanks for your further help.
  13. Hi, Can you please help. I am having one too many problems with IE7. 1) Have already defined a default start page but despite this, everytime I start IE, it starts with a page having URL "http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx". But NOTHING happens on this page 2) In Gmail when I try to switch from basic HTML mode to standard mode, I just get a page with URL "http://mail.google.com/mail/". Here too nothing happens and looks like I am forced to live with using Gmail only in simple HTML mode 3) Nothing which appears to have a javascript window or a download activity is not working. I have tried many websites including the one from where I was trying to download the Intel's chipset utility, but no download happens...Have tried refresh, starting all over again etc. etc. but Nothing 4) Have tried to reset all IE settings to default but still no solution Will appreciate your help. Thanks.
  14. Hi all, Hi Kelsenellenelvian, To be honest I am so frustrated that I do not mind the $150. I was told that I will be able to run XP without any problems/driver problems but now I can not find XP compatible drivers fo majority of the the devices. Almost all the drivers that I downloaded from SONY's site gives a message that "This *&^(@ can only be installed with Vista".... I really have no idea what to do now. Without any exaggaration, I have been saving for the last 1 year and now I am stuck with something that looks nice but only 50% of which works. Can anyone help me somehow find the drivers for SONY VAIO VGN-FZ140E and which will run on XP? Trust me, I will be eternally grateful. Regards.
  15. Thanks for the reply Kelsenellenelvian, Also. thank you for clearing my concepts and use of terminology It looks like a demanding task.... Well let's see.. Are you asking how much I pais for teh Laptop or to that "support" guy? Laptop = USD $ 1,500, "Support Guy" = USD $ 150
  16. Hi, I recently bought a SONY VAIO FZ104E Laptop which has a SATA harddisk. The Laptop came with Vista..When I tried to boot the Laptop using my original XP disk (which I purchase more than a year back), everything appeared to go fine until I got a screen saying that no internal harddisk found...I had to pay a bit and a "support guy" somehow got XP installed... I have yet to check if all drivers are working or not. In the meanwhile, I googled and found out that the CD I had did not have the drivers for a SATA harddisk. Then I read about the "streamline" concept and would like to make a bootable CD/DVD/"streamlined CD/DVD" which will have: 1) XP SP2 2) All the patches that have been released since Xp's SP2 (which I am in the process of downloading using AutoPatcher), and 3) All the drivers that that I have downloaded for my Laptop from Sony's web site. How do I go from here in order to make the "streamlined" DVD Do I simply copy all the download patches and the drivers to some folder or ????? Somewhere I read about nLite or something but could not really figure out and am ending my writing this post/request. Will be very much thankful for your help.
  17. Hi everyone, Thank you for your help.. Well I'll give your suggestions a try and wil post back in a few days. Thanks for your help
  18. Hi JuMz, Can I use Nero to do this burning OR is nLite the only solution??? Can you kindly share a URL from where I can download nLite. Thanks.
  19. Thank you for the URL's JuMz. But I do not have an external floppy. Would a USB/Flash Disk somehow??? work. If so, how? Regards.
  20. Hi Jumz and nitroshift, JuMz: Thank you for the url's... i'll visit them and give it a try. I'm already really upset and dishearted and this has double by learning that the drivers might not work with XP (if I am ever able to get XP up and running on the laptop). I'll post back if I get everything working as desired Till then, do wish me luck and kindly share if you come across something useful and related to the subject of this thread. Regards.
  21. Well I have downoad all the drivers from Sony's site and an ASSUMING that they will work with XP??? JuMz: Can you help me get the F6 AHCI Floppy driver for either Intel 945 or Intel 965 chipset (whatever that is)
  22. Hi, I have bought a Sony VAIO FZ140E which came with Vista. I was not expecting to face any problems and I inserted my genuine XP CD in the DVD drive and started the system.... Everything appeared to be working as it does when you are installing XP on a new machine UNTIL i got a windows which basically said that no internal drives can be found... and press F3 to exit. Am I now stuck with Vista? I don't want it, hate it, and want XP on my Laptop. Can someone please help. Thanks.

    Error 1721

Hello. When I try to install a software, the installation starts and then in the middle of the installation a dialog box (shown in the attached file) pops up. When I click on the OK button the installation resumes and just when the installation is about 100% complete the same dialog box pops up, i click ok, and the installation rolls back. The contents of the same dialog box are also given below: Error 1721. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Strangely this happens only sometimes but because of this I am unable to install some very important software. Can someone please help me. Thank You.
