Hey, with the sentence "SO locking you out" I'm not talking about permissions and forgotten password.. I mean this: "The current version of remote attestation facilitates the enforcement of policies against the wishes of computer owners. If the software you use is written with that goal in mind, the trusted computing architecture will not only protect data against intruders and viruses, but also against you. In effect, you, the computer owner, are treated as an adversary." Is that possible or not?

Hello, I haven't tried Windows7 yet, but the main reason that kept me on XP even with Vista around was: -I'd like to receive sure news about Trusted Computing. I'd really fear a SO that could lock me out of my files if a company decides so. Does anyone have info about it? Other secondary, but not trivial, reasons or doubts: -after SP3 and a custom install, XP Pro is now completely tamed (ok, only rebel for small things). Switching means possible new SO problems, drive compatibility issues, new configuration from start, updating many programs (and lose some). -will there still be the possibility to create custom unattended dvds for Win7? -what is the best version compared to WinXpPro? How much will it cost? How many licences per computer? -will W7 manage better its system resource needs? (memory, disk space) -boot & shutdown improvements leave me doubtful.. my XP is super fast on an old pc with just some tweaking. -did Microsoft really learn from XP great final result and Vista bad choices? (in the good way) Why change: -only 32 bit for my current Xp version -no full usage of multi processors -no more Microsoft support (patches) -no directx10 -losing compatibility in the future? -improved SO graphical interface -curiosity and need of new computer What do you think of the new OS? Is it better than patched Vista or XP Pro, from the functional point? Can you answer some of the questions? (expecially about TC)
-
Thanks for the answer, but "Show in Groups" wasn't checked and any view isn't saved anyway after reopen. All changes to the bin work only if I add then each time.. but that is just frustrating. On my OS (WINXP Pro) I have a default view for all folders plus personalized views for each directory. ALL is ok, except for the **** bin. On another computer, the current registry keys work also for the recycler .
-
Hello, does anyone know how to fix recycle bin sorting problems? My bin orders the files first by folders, then by drive and then by the selected column.. the result is messy. My error is related to my OS cd only, because I've exported the registry keys to another computer and they work perfectly there. Is there a .DLL or something just for the bin that can be safely replaced? This error appears on both SP2 and SP3. Could it be created by TweakUI or SafeXP maybe?
-
Ah thanks for the message because I stopped looking at this tread. Why did you say I misunderstood you? I understood what you've done (I already did the same), but that method works only if you don't set a default view for all! And that's what I'm trying to do: default for all, but single view customizable Did you set the Streams key too? My shell key about the bin doesn't disappear and doesn't have that "FolderType"="MyDocuments" string (sure it's the correct folder?) Also try with more files in the bin: again at first glance it seems all ok And please tell me yes\no: do you want to try my registry keys to test? It's the only way to show you what I mean p.s: maybe you think I misunderstood as you missed all my discoveries about Bags and Streams folders in the BIG posts above! Have a look!

Yeah it's true, it never ends XD Anyway only antivirus or antispyware programs are those more subjected to outdating (also some codecs) The rest rarely improves so much to be needing a new download.. and usually the switches are the same (if present). So the majority of my runonceex apps should stay there for a long time p.s: ouch.. so there are still many doubts about DPsFnshr
-
Ahh other good info. Then I'll use method 2 - custom But is DPsFnshr.exe a default name\path? If all works good, I'll finally be able to finish my dvd (and immediately start a new one with a WPI XD)
-
Yep, these are the seps I have to follow: 1-start with fresh copy 2-slipstream SP3 with nlite 3-add a custom manual entry in txtsetup.sif (now it's just a copy-paste file) 4-integrate KB patches with nlite 5-do rest of nlite operations 6-integrate Driverpacks with Base program 7-create final ISO Would be a good thing if DriverPacks could be re-run at the end without breaking something. Only.. I have to decide a method and stick with that Luckly for now I'm not doing a multiboot dvd but a simple WinXp + programs. Thanks deadbug p.s: a thing that I don't like about method 2 is that I have to create $1 folder and put that weird D structure inside. A cab or a folder called "driverpacks" would be way better (I'm just installing the 5mb mass storage for sata drivers)
-
-jasonkiller Thanks, I needed info like that. I'll use method 2 then. Starting the Finisher from RunOnceEx is a good option, but I'd like to manually add it in my custom procedures.. I already feel it won't be possible Also, I wonder why D folder wasn't removed. -deadbug Well, unfortunately I'm using a mix of nlite\manual options\driverpacks, so I can't leave the integration just at the beginning. Also my scripting skills are pretty limited to create something reliable for that. Sigh, too bad driverpacks cannot be easily slipstreamed manually or via nlite
-
I'm using a virtual machine! But the process of creating the image is long in terms of time and steps to do. Sigh.. so noone really knows something about the methods
-
I've tested "method 2"-"Guirunonce" but I ended unsatisfied and now I need to redo ISO from start. (I use nlite + manual runonce for now) I'm asking here because I want to avoid restarting a second time. Someone help please!

RunOnceEx: preserve flags during reboot
phaolo replied to derniwi's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Are you sure FLAGS is deleted exactly when rebooting? If not, you could just recreate the registry entry from runonceex itself before the shutdown command I cannot think at any other solution.. -
change environment path in combination with junction
phaolo replied to TuMaGoNx's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Ahh I changed the default paths to non-spaced ones too hehe. I used an option in Nlite though. Can't that be simply set from "shell folders" key in the registry? (guessing) Anyway I decided to change only "Programs", "Documents and Settings","My Documents" and leave alone "Application Data","Local Settings","All Users","Default User" because with tests I found that not all programs use the global paths for them Also be careful if you want to junction folders to secondary drives.. I dunno what could happen if one is missing\has problems (BSOD?) -
Yes, the option "remember folder setting" is enabled. I know I can change directory views from Bag: it works for every folder except for the bin if I try to sort by the special columns. In your test the bin points to 1 as it's simply the first opened directory. -------- I don't know if your attempts are exactly similar to mine. Did you do this? 1- reset all folders (or delete the keys) 2- set a default view from "My computer" with "Apply to all folders" (without touching anything else) 3- reboot 4- change only recycle bin view to show order by date deleted inverted 5- export keys to save current configuration (optional) 6- try if bin works correctly (needs testing with more files, at first glance appears good even if it's not) Again, if you want I can give you my reg files to see, but you have to first do a backup of yours (anyway a reset fixes all) ----------- Look an example of the weird order I get. They are all normal files and not folders (yes, I know, late hours XD)
-
Eh I know, but I posted here as there is few info on that site. And in the forum stickies some Wiki links are broken: see yourself http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=364
-
Can you help me? Questions: 1-what is the best integration method? 2-and the exact difference? The info is not very clear for me 3-what does the custom finisher method allow? Does it let me manually add the driver setup in runonceex? 4-is it possible to avoid folder creation like D on main drive and others inside I386?
-
I'm not very sure if WMP10 is the problem as the overwriting happens in its same list. To do so the setup should relaunch "rundll32.exe iernonce.dll,RunOnceExProcess" command and that would be a weird choice. It must happen in runoex2.cmd or in the OS as iamthekay suggested. I used a clean copy, but after discovering that the default runonceex title (without the key) is "Windows Update" I think I'll redo from start (I've set it! )
-
Thank you GrofLuigi, but unfortunately I couldn't make that method work as I wanted. (you, tumagonx?) My method instead seems to work good (default folder view + custom folder changes), but the bin has still a weird behaviour... Now it remembers all views, but sorting by the special columns "date deleted" and "original location" is screwed. I wonder if it's a bug.. What do you think Tumagonx, did you have better luck? Do you want to exchange settings? (you'll have to reset all views, then set the defaults and finally export the changed keys)

Maybe I managed to do it! Now the bin remembers its view, except the first time i open it (but this is less annoying than every time). Have to test more. I'll post an example to show what I've discovered till now (not 100% sure of course): ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ; max number of folder views to remember [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam] "BagMRU Size"=dword:000000c8 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ; this contains info for each folder view [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU] ; specify how many folders view are memorized. Each "02" is an entry "NodeSlots"=hex:02 02 02 ; each 8 digits point to next strings. Increases backwards like this ffffffff,00000000,01000000,02000000,etc.. "MRUListEx"=hex:00,00,00,00,01,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,ff,ff,ff,ff ; The first integer points to subkey numbers. If you look inside the binary you can read part of the folder name. "0"=hex:14,00,1f,60,40,f0,5f,64,81,50,1b,10,9f,08,00,aa,00,2f,95,4e,00,00 "1"=hex:14,00,1f,48,ba,8f,0d,45,25,ad,d0,11,98,a8,08,00,36,1b,11,03,00,00 "2"=hex:14,00,1f,60,40,f0,5f,64,81,50,1b,10,9f,08,00,aa,00,2f,95,4e,00,00 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ; key number corresponding to a folder. Each entry gets subkeys for subdirectories views [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU\0] ; works like bagmru mrulistex string and depends on subkeys "MRUListEx"=hex:ff,ff,ff,ff ; eventual numbered strings for subkeys ; this is a folder counter (increases by 1 in each folder or subfolder created). Points to Bags keys "NodeSlot"=dword:00000001 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ; same as above (example) [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU\1] "MRUListEx"=hex:ff,ff,ff,ff "NodeSlot"=dword:00000002 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ; same as above (example) [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU\2] "MRUListEx"=hex:ff,ff,ff,ff "NodeSlot"=dword:00000003 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ; these are pointed by nodeslot strings in bagmru subkeys [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags\1\Shell] ; show toolbars "Buttons"=dword:ffffffff "Links"=dword:00000000 "Address"=dword:ffffffff ; choose auto-arrange, align-to-grid, none, ecc (means file flags?) "FFlags"=dword:00000000 ; special folders like "documents" have this string "FolderType"="foldername" ; assign hotkey? dunno "HotKey"=dword:00000000 ; this changes file view type (icon, list, details, etc..). Why two strings? "Vid"="{137E7700-3573-11CF-AE69-08002B2E1262}" "Mode"=dword:00000004 ; the scroll position.. but it's not memorized anyway "ScrollPos1024x768(1).x"=dword:00000000 "ScrollPos1024x768(1).y"=dword:00000000 ; changes if window opens maximized "ShowCmd"=dword:00000001 ; ascending-descending order (sortdirection!) "SortDir"=dword:ffffffff ; these indicate what column number is used for sorting. Again, why two strings? Eh lol I like to comment a lot so I'll be able to easily modify the ISO in the future runox02A.cmd -->runs directly before the reboot that returns to a 'windows update' runonce window runox03A.cmd -->is the affected runonce The cause could be one program that adds a runoceex install part and runs it directly with rundll32.exe or after next reboot. I'm doing tests in the VM, but it seems I can't replicate the problem in non-setup environment (strange) Do you know which software can't be the source of the error, so I remove it from the "suspects"? I must say that Wmp10 seems the possible origin for me.. but I don't have proof
