    Undelete?

It's good that you didn't use the laptop, otherwise your chances would have been few, after a week. I've only tried the free Recuva once, but it managed to find something. https://www.piriform.com/recuva/features/portable-version Just put the program on a usb stick and run from it. (in theory, you shouldn't even boot from the disk containing the deleted files, but that would mean moving it to another pc) Good luck!
  2. I read that it now collects and sells your browser history and your pc info Blacklisting to me seems too much limited than whitelisting.
  3. It's not ideal, but luckly a popup or an entry in the Event Logs warn about RSP errors, so you can just restart an unsuccessful installation. Well, I'm already creating backups on external drives and encryption is a bit a PITA. Sigh
  4. Hello, I'm trying some solution to secure my system as I'm quite scared by cryptoviruses. I already have external offline backups and drive images, but I'd prefer prevention more than a.. restore. Questions: - are there some permission settings that could block a program trying to encrypt user folders or entire drives? (without limiting normal usage too much!) - on Win7 Pro I'm trying SRP (Software Restriction Policies) whitelisting, but it isn't perfect as various programs and setups still need to execute files in Appdata or Temp folders. Also, this wouldn't block anything disguised as a valid installer. Do you have some tips about this feature? - what are some decent free antiviruses now? (AVG became spyware) - other advices?
  5. OK, the first suggestion didn't work (as I remembered), but the script seems good! I've found an improved one created for various Win versions here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/67114-system-restore-point-create-system-startup.html --- Oh, hello jaclaz. I saw that PS needs a single line (wow), but I opted for the more compatible solution. Btw, I'm happily on Win7 --- Thanks to all!
  6. Ah, now I remember that I already tried that. I'll give it another shot, but it probably didn't work. Ah cool, if the solution above is still KO, I'll try this. Thanks for the suggestions!
  7. Err.. I tried different things in various months, so I don't remember exactly. O_o' Anyway, nothing ever worked. I don't need daily System Image backups.. isn't there any other method for SR only?
  8. Hello, I'd like to change the default SR schedule to be more frequent (e.g: daily) No method suggested online seems to work and points are only created weekly. Is there a definitive solution for this?
  9. Sigh.. this forum has become quite empty since some months Anyway: - after various tries, SFC managed at least to repair themeservice.dll and uxtheme.dll. - DISM /restorehealth seems to exist only on Win 8+ versions. - no SR tab in "Safe mode" is probably a security feature.
  10. Oh well, I solved at least the first problem. I used System Restore from the Repair mode and it worked No idea about that SR error or the other issues though.. Any comment?
  11. Hi, this morning I discovered that System Restore stopped working correctly, because, after choosing a point, I got the error 0x80070005 (see the image). I'm on Windows 7 Pro x64 (not planning to update to 8\10). No active antivirus at the moment. I've tried various solutions online, but noone worked. Selecting a 20 days old point didn't work either. How can I fix this? --- I've also encountered other problems not related to the first error, but discovered due to that: - SFC /scannow couldn't repair some files like: themeservice.dll, themeui.dll, uxtheme.dll - DISM doesn't have the usual /restorehealth parameter (only /scanhealth).. why?? - the "System Protection" tab is missing in "Safe mode" (bug or feature?). --- Do you have any suggestion? Should I try a repair at this point? (NO refresh)
  12. Hi, can Office 365 read old files? I've tried opening .xls, .doc, .rtf, but they're all grey or they cause a compatibility error popup. Only new formats like .xlsx, .docx seem to work! Do you know if there's an option, patch, or converter somewhere? (for both Mac and Win possibly)
  13. Uh.. hello? Doesn't anybody know about this problem?
  14. Hello, is there a clear procedure to delete\edit the first account in the default Mail program? The button is missing and there's no config. I've read that it could be tied to the MS account, but I don't how to check\edit that. The Win10 pc is not mine, however, so I can't test things: I need some instructions to follow, please. Help?
  15. Thank you for the help, but as I wrote, I already managed to do it. "UEFI: USB DRIVE" gave me that red warning screen, but after a\few restarts it worked (the other entry was functioning, but I didn't want legacy).
  16. EDIT: nevermind, after a pair of tries, it worked.. Uh.. help? I made the iso, put it on an USB stick using Rufus, disabled Secure Boot (Asus z170 mobos require removing PKs), and now.. ..when I choose to boot the UEFI USB I get a "Secure Boot violation" screen like this Wha.. what am I doing wrong? Can't\shouldn't I install Win7 in UEFI?
  17. But why is Win Toolkit bad? It can deal with drivers, hotfixes and settings too. Anyway, I've already set it up, so I'll try it at this point. Btw, is NTlite not good as well in your opinion?
  18. It was the extracted iso. The dvd files didn't work too. Anyway, I was using a computer with Vista x86. Now the program seems to work correctly on a Win81 X64. But.. submix8c suggested it to me He said that RT7 often fails.
  19. Well, it seems that I've received a SR2BV model, so.. no SGX! Hopefully I've avoided a crappy feature and not something great ' Now I'll have to deal with BIOS options (update done), then OS image + setup. Do you have any advice about some important BIOS settings?
  20. Ok, in the meantime I'm trying Win Toolkit to create an image with integrated updates. The first problem, however, is that a downloaded official Win7 iso doesn't appear in it.. (I've also tried my user folder for it)
  21. I'm simply going to turn Win Update off. I'll just manually install\slipstream what doesn't seem evil (like all that telemetry,Win10 crap).
  22. Fingers crossed.. Anyway, I'm going to use Win7, remember the GGK thread ; )
  23. Here I received an answer. Hopefully it's correct
