Well i have gone for it and installed the KB899525. hotfix and the vmm.sys is the same version as after installing the KB899525 - still @ (1.1.465.14), but the Virtual pc.exe - is now a newer version. And yes with increasing the memory and the above fix in place its all faster and smoother running!

The full spec of my pc is : PentiumD 940 (P) DC 3.2 GHz, 800 MHz front side bus, Socket 775 Intel 945P Memory 2GB 400 GB (2 x 200) SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec), 7200 rpm GeForce 7600GS, 512 MB DDR memory TV tuner card with FM tuner Integrated 10/100 Base-T networking interface I have also just installed another hotfix KB889677 that updated the Virtual pc.exe (5.3.582.32) and Vmm.sys (1.1.465.14) files, and this has helped the performance, but i will also increase the amount of memory used by VPC as above, thanks for your help... but i still wonder will installing KB899525 help further with performance, do anyone know what this changes the file version numbers too...

Virtual Pc 2004 has very slow performance running under windows xp media centre, the chipset i am runing on is Intel 945P, i have searched and can not find any listed problems, other than KB899525 which is provided as a fix for slow performance under intel centrino 915 chipset but this seems to be for laptops only?? Does anyone know if this would work for my chipset, or if you have installed it ? Cheers!

Hi, I have just spend some 5 hours rebuilding my HP M7580.uk PC, First i used the HP Recovery Dvd to reinstall the factory build and then installed all my applications such as office 2003, updates and so on. I then booted into Ghost 2003 and created a ghost image of drive 1 which is a two partition drive first partition is drive “C” and the second is drive “E” (this being the HP recovery partition), the ghost imaging went well with no errors and verified ok. I then wanted to test this new image , so I deleted all partitions on drive 1 and then reinstalled the ghost image, after imaging the system booted ok as normal and as soon as I logged on the system took a further 3-4 min to load into windows desktop. I was prompted that new hardware/device changes had been found and asked to reboot, It also seemed that during this reboot windows found recovery Drive e and i was prompted to view drive (Just like when loading a CD – Auto load). On restarting no errors, no delay everything is OK. On checking the event log the only error reported is those found on the first boot after imaging.. Under the event log i had the following error: Event ID 7026 Description: The following b oot-start or system-start driver (s) failed to load: eeCtrl SAVRTPEL SPBBCDrv SYMTDI vmm and then... Event ID 7024 Description: The Symantec SPBBCSvc service terminated with service-specific error 4294967295 (0XFFFFFFFF). After searching on Google I understand that all of the above seem to be something to do with “Symantec Internet Security 2006” that I have installed and i am wondering why this has happened and does this not effect the stability of the system.... Its also good to confirm that the first partition on the drive is the recovery (Fat32) and second is the primary with windows xp on it (NTFS) so maybe this is the issue??

Well have check out the hard drive and all is well no issues or problems, this just leaves me with the question to why the original ghost 10 image was ok, and then the new build always asks to do a chkdsk on rebooting the pc once the ghost restore is complete. From the help given my "crahak" i understand that may be normal, but i am confused as why dos this not happen on the original build.... this leaves me wondering that maybe the new build was in some way corrupt. Can'nt find anything about chkdsk runnng when the partition is changed...
-
@hp38guser - When you say get the hard drive checked - i trust you mean running chkdsk /f ?, or do you suggest something else/
-
@crahak - Thanks for your reassurance, i have always used ghost 2003 and have never seen this before just started using ghost 10 as i got it free with systemworks and internet security.... but i think i may go back to using ghost 2003.....

I recently had to do a complete restore of my C: drive using Ghost 10 and the restoring of the drive went ok with no errors. Once the restore was complete the system restarted and during boot up the system reported that the C: needed to be checked for “disk consistency” and ran through a chkdsk and then started ok into windows. I am a little concerned to why this has happened, as the original ghost image I did was ok, this was build on the 9th of September. The new build was based on the original build with September’s hot fixes, Symantec updates and a few other updates… Yet each time the new build is loaded its goes through the same routine of chkdsk on first boot? Any ideas?, or i am mad....
