  1. who? Author of the post above mine of course :-O I looked at official documentation and most of those parameters are not mentioned at all.
  2. Where exactly did you get the parameters from btw?

    why no update?

  4. Passively cooled cards are supposed to be hot, but not SO much in idle If it's a problem of REALLY bad airflow, taking the side plate of the case away should significantly reduce the temperature. Easy test.
  5. Well, the Radeon in question is definitely lowend, but still I think these cards generally can handle temperatures up to like 100 degrees. That said, 84 in idle is wrong as hell When it comes to the paste, I don't think this should be necessary. From the sound of it I assume the card wasn't toyed around with at all. Usually you don't have to mess around this for several years and most cards have no problems at all. Sometimes clearing the dust is helpful when the cooler starts to make funky noises... So this must be something different, I think. Or maybe it's so full of dust the fan operates at half it's speed. Or... Or... Too little information available at this time! edit: oh it's passively cooled. I'd check temperature in the case. Thinking further, cooling on these lowend cards is usually not mounted in an awesome way, so I'd check if the heatsink is not loose.
  6. Try to touch the card's cooler with a finger. Is it so hot you can't keep it on? Take it out and use vacuum cleaner on it, maybe it's dusty.
  7. That's very bad idea, noone knows what gets screwed up by such awkward methods. Why don't you just download SP1 image from official sources?
  8. So with UAC off and logged on as local admin, "run as admin" makes NO difference in ANYTHING at all?
  9. Not when you have it switched off, like every normal person
  10. Well, he claims that for example Intel chipset drivers DON'T install fully/correctly under Windows7 UNLESS you run the setup.exe as admin. I find that a bit hard to believe, or rather think it's nonsense. I always thought there was nothing above local administrator permissions.
  11. My colleague just told me that in Windows 7 I should install EVERYTHING by right clicking on the exe and going wiht "Install as admin" option, else lots of things would not be installed or written into registry. Is there any truth to this? He said that run as admin is more than being logged in as local administrator account. This is first time I heard about this, so I am fairly confused now.
  12. Ah this is nice! So basically what W7 Customizer was supposed to do before Blue disappeared. I will give this a shot despite not having the "must remove stuff to make it faster" thing in my mind anymore as I grew older
  13. I found something: Default setting: By default, the Windows Customer Experience Improvement Program is turned off. When Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are installed and the computer is started for the first time, the Initial Configuration Tasks interface appears, displaying a variety of tasks including Enable automatic updating and feedback. In this task, you can choose to enable the default level of automatic updating and feedback, or you can manually configure settings. If you enable automatic updating and feedback, you turn on the Customer Experience Improvement Program. The trouble is I don't remember if I got such popup when I was creating the default image Will do an annoying test then...
  14. Installation failed when I tried using anything but numerical values. Grr.
  15. Does it work in similar fashion to install_wim_tweak?
  16. I was following http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766045(WS.10).aspx Quite weird is the fact that it's allegedly disabled by default. I really have no idea what's the cause here.
  17. Problem: **** Customer experience improvement program is still enabled despite having <component name="Microsoft-Windows-SQMApi" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <CEIPEnabled>0</CEIPEnabled> </component> in my unattended file. Help! What else do I need to disable it? Documentation doesn't mention anything in addition to this simple setting.
  18. You are quite right, actually. If I could I'd pay for a licence for nLite, but sadly such option doesn't exist I also completely forgot about this because I haven't touched XP for quite some time and then I needed to come up with a solution when I got this job.
  19. I will finish my monologue with what I finally found out. I use nLite to ease the installation of XP machines. After even more trial and error I accidentally found out that that KB943729 doesn't install (or just doesn't work - I don't know) if I integrate Intel chipset drivers into the installation image. Doesn't make sense? I know. It does work if I install those drivers after I join domain and install the KB. What I did was integrade the KB into the image as well like if I was adding updates. I have no idea what the deal was, but it works.
  20. Much better. I am sick to my stomach opening command prompt and typing the same stuff over and over again. This will be tremendous help.
  21. After hopelessly trying this and that I managed to nail it down to some sort of incompatibility with Windows XP. In theory, this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943729 should let me use the new stuff on XP, but it is still not working at all.
  22. Still doesn't work. It actually opens my own files lol.
  23. This happens semi-regularly in out customer's domain. The trouble is there are two DCs and the secondary somehow acts as primary or something. The PC's account is created on the secondary, but nothing shows up on primary.
  24. Really need some help here... I googled like mad and found nothing.
