  1. I am using Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 4 with many updates applied. The hard disk being used is Seagate ST3120026AS with firmware version 8.05. A single NTFS partition exisits on the hard disk occupying entire capacity that may be occupied by a partition. I have been occasionally been receiving strange files in my Local Settings\Temp directory that can be described by the following (file name, followed, by file size, followed by file attributes): Drive 381C5E60 Clusters.dir 87,889,597 bytes Archive and Compressed attributes set Drive 381C5E60 Files.dir 9,035,555 bytes Archive attribute set Drive 381C5E60 Names.dir 3,199,312 bytes Archive attribute set Attached is S.M.A.R.T. diagnostic, recently taken, of the hard disk being used showing the hard disk in good condition. I ran CHKDSK and it resulted in displaying "0 KB in bad sectors". I usually simply delete the odd files and allow them to be regenerated in the future (at least a week). What could be the reason for the existence of the files and are they a problem? hdrepanalysis.pdf
  2. I wish to install Office 2000 Premium, for all multiple local users on Windows 2000/XP running computers, only once. I also wish to have any future created local accounts able to use Office 2000 without having to insert Office 2000 installation CD prior to first use of the user. How do I go about acomplishing this? In the past, when installing Office 2000, each local user has been prompted to insert Office 2000 installation CD prior to being able to use Office 2000.
  3. The application does not seem to work correctly using Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 4; the clock does not appear. A black figure instead appears where it should be.
  4. What is XPize? Also, images do not display.
  5. I have found the reason for the update prompting on the Adobe Systems Incorporated website, http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation....html#pervasive : So it seems like the flash update prompt annoyance occurs due to an automatic update check being scheduled soon after an unauthorized update check.I found that the offensive behavior may be modified using Adobe Flash Player Settings Manager at: http://www.macromedia.com/support/document..._manager05.html By default, the update check is set. By changing an option on Adobe Flash Player Settings Manager, the local behavior of upate check ceases to occur; this implies that a change to a local data occurs. I would like to always have update check disabled after new installations of Windows. Where is the update check setting stored, and how may it be modified without using above linked Settings Manager?
  6. After logging in an account on Windows 2000 or Windows XP, I sometimes and promted with what appears in the attachment to this post. It appears to be a nag to update Adobe Flash componets. I have checked "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" and "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" and did not see any entry for an Adobe component. Also the Startup folder of the Start Menu is empty. Where does the adobe check for update exist and how may I disable it? EDIT: Post #4 describes creation of update check startup. Now I would like to know where is the update check setting stored and how may it be modified without using Adobe Flash Player Settings Manager (post #4)? I would like to always have update check disabled after new installations of Windows.
  7. I am thinking you are also assuming the original poster has Windows XP Home Edition installation source and key. Nope, I am assuming he SELLS his XP MCE and buys XP Home Edition, making a small profit in the process, since firstly, you cannot even buy MCE in shops and secondly, it is more valuable than XP Home because of the very features it has that he does not need or want. How do you know Idontwantspam does not neer or want features in MCE?
  8. I am thinking you are also assuming the original poster has Windows XP Home Edition installation source and key.
  9. How do configure Outlook Express 6 to append signitures with hyperlinks to emails to be composed?
  10. No. However you can find an XP Pro CD and use my XP MCE key to install Xp MCE.If you use a Windows XP Professional CD to install Windows XP with the MCE key and also forgo inputing the contents of Media Center Edition CD2, Windows Media Media Center Edition 200x, where x is a digit greater than 1 and less than 5 (depending on what updates are installed), would be installed with eqivalent functionality to Windows XP Professional, less the existence of a few start menu shortcuts (they could easly be appended), would be installed. I believe that you may find this acceptable.
  11. The term "Gold" defined in a Microsoft FAQ: I shall update the initial post to this thread to include the meaning of "Gold".
  12. Thanks. Was there ever a Skype 2.5.0.154 business version?
  13. Does the CD2 of the Windows XP Media Center Edition with Service Pack 2 () installation medias contain any Media Center updates? (Probably the same answer to, is CD2 of the Windows XP Media Center Edition Gold medias the same as Windows XP Media Center Edition with Service Pack 2?) EDIT: "Gold is the term used to describe the originally released version of the product—that is, the version of the product before any service packs have been applied." (Microsoft)
  14. I was not ware that the Audigy series had a ZS card (I am thinking it does not really). If the sound card driver is like what I am using (Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS), check the Creative Audio Console "Speakers" tab and assure that settings are correct. Also assure that settings of "Sounds and Multimedia Properties" (name string may be different) control panel are correct (View all "Advanced" settings). Regarding vinodh's comment, for conveinience I uploaded the utility RadLight Filter Manager 1.4 to manage codecs (codec property pages may be accessed) to RapidShare (file too large to attach). RadLight Filter Manager 1.4 http://rapidshare.com/files/17335447/rlfm_bin1_4.zip.html 211,900 bytes
  15. Actuallly, it would be like Windows XP Professional less the ability to join a domain.
  16. THe easiest way to backup the emais is to simply copy the store folder to a different ocation. The "Export..." button may be used from the Internet Accounts dialog box to back up account settings. To backup Outlook Express Identities and settings, back up HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities .
  17. Care to elaborate? From the author's "Frequently asked questions" section on his website, "JkDefrag is based on the standard defragmentation API by Microsoft, a system library that is included in Windows 2000, 2003, XP".
  18. I tried the utility. Apparently it uses Windows defragmentation library. The results of the tool seem inferior to that of the degragmentation snap-in that comes with Windows 2000.
  19. Another freeware software that would be good for perhaps the "Customizing Windows" category is MultiMon Taskbar ( http://www.mediachance.com/free/multimon.htm ). MultiMon Taskbar adds tasksbars to secondary montors, and ands other functionality to make better use of a multi-monitor setup. Also, a clipboard extender is included. The program is also under 1 MB and a great free program for those with multiple monitor setups.
  20. Agreed. Avoid Diskeeper. Why? I've been using it for months. My fragments is 0. My fragmentation level is 0%. What's your logic other than simply agreeing with someone says? Why do they dislike it? Do you even know if your reason and their reason are the same? Explain yourself. I do not know the answer to all you questions.Something for you to try: Unistall Diskeeper. Then try to use (defragment) the defragmenter that comes with windows. The defragmenter may not fuction correctly (tested only on Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 4). Diskeeper seems to cripple the defragmenter that comes with Windows 2000.
  21. I have seen this type of problem also. Disabling monitoring (may be called "Event Monitoring") of PCI PME BIOS setting may also resolve the issue.
