  1. You can depending on BIOS, drivers, and operating system.
  2. For Internet Explorer, security issues have existed that were patchable to eliminate the security problem; unfortunately crippling functionality has often been the result.
  3. Not quite, but somewhat close. Some documents fail to be fuction with Internet Explorer with Service Pack 2. However that is not the primary reason.
  4. It is not irrelevant. I am the topic starter. What I want and have started a thread about is precisely of relevance.
  5. The test system was a Gateway computer.
  6. Versions of Windows released prior to Windows 95 did not have a start button.I assumed Windows XP was being used (as this is the "Microsoft Widows XP" forum). I also assumed that the original poster was referring to something different than what he intended (that is why I did not attempt to answer the question).
  7. I found a tool (sbbypass.exe) that would download updates in sysprep factory mode. The tool however seems to leave the updates in an unpackaged state (extracted) in directories (member to "%SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download"). The location of the tool used is http://oem.microsoft.com/downloads/Worldwi...ss/sbbypass.zip . nLite will accept only .cab, .exe, or .7z, or .rar files. Perhaps another integrator? EDIT: it seems that the sbbypass tool does not download all the necessary updates.
  8. I checked the Windos Update catalog. The Windows Update catalog does not seem very accurate.
  9. I do not want all the latest files. I wish to have the most the latest files and not select updates.
  10. I do not know. How would I acquire that information?
  11. I remember seeing a thread on msfn.org forum the linked to a page that showed different methods of acquiring updates. I believe the page also showed how to create a download URL. I cannot find the thread.
  12. I have tried jcarle's Windows Updates Downloader, but it does not download the updates without having the download URLs.
  13. I have a list of individual updates for Windows XP with Service Pack 1 that I wish to download. I have the list by both KB numbers and MS - numbers. How or using what may select Windows updates be downloaded easily? I do not want to download each update individually from the download pages of the Microsoft Download Center.
  14. Windows XP with Service Pack 2 updates Internet Explorer 6 (or 6 with Service Pack 1) to Internet Explorer 6 with Service Pack 2. I do not want the latest version of Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP.
  15. Product does not appear to be activated; Activation Wizard appears.I have installed OEM Windows XP Professional on a new virtual machine with "SMBIOS.reflectHost = TRUE", but am still prompted for activation.
  16. Can Internet Explorer 6 with Service Pack 1 be installed on a Windows XP with Service Pack 2 operating system? If it may be done, how?
  17. Not answering your question, The WinKey and Menu keys have similar (not quite the same but should be close enough) functioning keyboard shortcuts. You may use Ctrl + Esc to toggle the start menu; Shift + F10 may be used to show context menu.
  18. Thanks, I added "SMBIOS.reflectHost = TRUE" to my vmx file. If OEM Windows XP Professional had been installed and not activated nor activation intetionally modified prior to making the change to vmx file, would Windows, after making the change to the vmx file, prompt to activate?
  19. From what I have read, qchain.exe will keep correct version of files when applying updates to Windows. It does not seem to apply to integration of updates into an installation source. May qchain.exe be applied to an installation source so that slipstreaming updates is done correctly?
  20. I am planning on installing Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1 and Winodws 2000 Professional with Service Pack 4. I do do plan to use Service Pack 1 for Windows XP.Does the file version mechanism exist for pre-XP SP2 hotfixes? Does the mechanism also apply to Windows 2000 hotfixes?
  21. I understand that it is recommended that Windows updates be installed in order of release. I do not understand when Windows technologies (like Windows Media Player, DirectX, Internet Explorer, and .NET Framework) should be installed in relation to the Windows Hot fixes. Also, when should the updates for the technologies be installed relative to the technologies and Windows updates? Clarification appreciated.
  22. Very interesting. I shall look into this tool.
  23. I cannot find an option to pass the BIOS information for VMware.I am using VMware Workstation 5.5.3 build-34685.
  24. So Windows checks BIOS for something (I would guess some kind of of an identifier) and if certain information is returned, producted is activated. Is this correct. What form the BIOS is returned to Windows? I probably would not be able to sucessfully test using VMWare.
