Sysprep And A Common Image
Bilou_Gateux replied to rmarsico's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I'm using a RIS Server to deploy a Win2K install built with GreenMachine XPCreate and Ghost 8 corporate to deploy Windows XP Preconfigured images and both have advantages. To my opinion, Ghost is faster to deploy a big XP image with a lot of preinstalled applications and RIS is fast to install 2k and launch applications install from a network share. Keep both solutions ! and yes UIU is probably a good companion to Ghost but need to buy additional software. -
Thanks Gagorian. I have posted a MAKESFX.CMD batch file for creating IEXPRESS SFX package MSXML3.EXE I have also included the IE6GO.CMD from IE6START.EXE into my experimental combined package to run it juste after IE6SP1.EXE from SVCPACK. MSXML3.EXE do the following: install msxmlx.inf run ie6go.cmd containing this command: START "RunOnce" /WAIT /B RUNDLL32.EXE IERNONCE.DLL,RunOnceExProcess

CRLUPD.CAB: It's not really an IE6 component, rather an Update Available to Revoke Fraudulent Microsoft Certificates Issued by VeriSign I will try to run it from SVCPACK.INF with the downloaded file from the link and run command CRLUPD.EXE /Q:A /R:N rather than "slipstream" it into source because i believe that files are no longer needed after installation. The update only run one command: updcrl.exe -e -u verisignpub1.crl which revoke fraudulent issued certificates. If you go to your %systemroot%\System32 dir and right-click on the verisignpub1.crl file, you have a context menu to install it. When you do a regular install of IE6 SP1, both crlupd.exe and mscrlrev.dll are not copied to %systemroot%\System32 Although the size of the 3 files are next to nothing (14 Kb), i don't need to copy files that are not mandatory in my %systemroot%\system32 dir. (archived infos here) SLIPSTREAM: I have written script directive files to achieve this modifications with GNU SED, the Stream EDitor v3.02.80 How to: append new IE files to DOSNET.INF and TXTSETUP.SIF add new dlls to register to SYSSETUP.INF add some tools to your source CD for UA install (optional) delete VML install from SYSSETUP.INF If you don't want to perform some action (like optionaly removing VML install), just add a # to the line in the script directive file. SLIPSTREAM2: i have written a sed directive file IE.SED and a batch file IE.CMD expand ie.in_ ie.inf ::using a directive file ie.txt sed -f ie.sed ie.inf > ie.new if exist ie.old del /f /q ie.old ren ie.inf ie.old ren ie.new ie.inf to apply new data values from XP IE.INF to 2K IE.INF Full list of diff. here: patchIE.txt sed directive file need some additions currently # rem'ed to apply to 2K IE.INF + some minors modifications based from ieexcep.inf file + modifications based from Hotfix SLIPSTREAM3: I have written an IE2KInst.inf file to add new data values in registry and register new dlls. Currently the WSH part don't install correctly when launched from svcpack.inf. "%SystemRoot%\System32\rundll32.exe setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 .\IE2KInst.inf" It works as expected when i right-click on the inf file and select install on the context menu.

Add REG.EXE (from the support tools) and REGINI.EXE (Obtain the Regini.exe program from the Windows 2000 Resource Kit) tools to your 2K Unattended CD: Compress both files and place them in the I386 folder of your unattended CD. %CD% is the current dir which contains both files %DESTDIR% is the destination folder Batch File SET DESTDIR=CDROOT\I386 IF EXIST %CD%\*.EXE FOR /F "USEBACKQ DELIMS==" %%J IN (`DIR /A-D /OGN /B %CD%\*.EXE 2^>NUL`) DO MAKECAB /D CompressionMemory=21 /D CompressionType=LZX /L %DESTDIR% %CD%\%%J During the first phase of the unattended setup, all system files are temporarily copied to C:\$Win_nt$.~ls and C:\$Win_nt$.~bt. The Dosnet.inf lists the files that have to be copied to the system. Therefore, the next step is to edit the Dosnet.inf and add the following lines to the end of the [Files] section: d1,REGINI.EXE d1,REG.EXE The Txtsetup.sif file is used during the text-mode phase of the unattended setup. This file tells the setup process which files have to be copied to the hard disk. The next step is to modify the Txtsetup.sif. Add the following lines to the end of the [sourceDisksFiles] section of the Txtsetup.sif file: REGINI.EXE = 1,,,,,,,2,0,0 REG.EXE = 1,,,,,,,2,0,0 Adding these lines causes the files above to be copied to the System32 directory.

The method i use to avoid the copy and integration of these folders into built CD. Create an ISO image with an imaging tool like LC ISO Creator of your source CD on your hard drive. remove the unwanted folders from the image and save it with a CD/DVD image file edit tool. Mount the image as virtual CD with tools like FileDisk (console tool) or DAEMON Tools (GUI) Set XPSOURCE=<VirtualCD_Drive_Letter> in XPCreate.ini Voilà ! If you have Nero 6, you can do all the required steps with Nero Burning ROM and Nero Image Drive.

MAKEIE was a tool used to create an IE Package before the code was introduced into XPCreate tool. It's no longer used but GM has not deleted the link due to lack of time... If you use the latest available XPCreate version (June 2004), IE6Setup.exe will be downloaded from Microsoft and the package automatically created. If the IE6SP1.EXE package allready exists in SVC-PRE, XPCreate will just skip this step. @GM I repeat my whish to be able to set the variable with XPCreate.ini I will ask you to make a very little modification in you code for the next version to turn the IE6 download feature (ALWAYS YES if IE6SP1 not found locally) to selectable through XPCREATE.INI. SET GETIE6=YES .../... IF NOT "%GETIE6%"=="YES" GOTO EOF It's very confusing that all downloads are made with XPCTHLST.TXT list except IE6. Download URL's are coded in XPCreate. Late addition: see this dedicated topic about: Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Download the 2K version of list here XPCTHLST.TXT (4th post) to understand.

@bilemke I'm not sure the Cmdline version unrar.exe can extract an archive and then launch the cmd file included in the archive.
-
@Astalavista If we uncheck the option "Unpack to temporary folder", would the archive file be unpacked in the folder from which we launch the exe. Or we have to set "Path to extract" = "Create in the current folder" Or both options ? ie WinRAR silent SFX PREMSJVM.exe is copied to C:\$WINNT$.~LS\I386\SVCPACK along with MSJAVWU.exe PREMSJVM.exe contains only one batch PREMSJVM.CMD which execute preliminary steps using MSJAVWU.exe in the same folder C:\$WINNT$.~LS\I386\SVCPACK We launch the install proccess PREMSJVM.exe from SVCPACK.INF (That why we need an exe, NOT a cmd) SVCPACK.INF [SetupHotfixesToRun] "PREMSJVM.exe" "MSJAVWU.EXE /Q:A /R:N /c:""javatrig.exe /exe_install /l /qq /nowin2kcheck""" Can we have the PREMSJVM.CMD file extracted in C:\$WINNT$.~LS\I386\SVCPACK ? I would like to use this method in order not to add MSJAVWU.exe in my PREMSJVM.exe archive but launch the install MSJAVWU.exe with switches after launching PREMSJVM.exe.
