Generally the core temperature of X800/X850 is around 60°C ~ 75°C in Win98se instead of 45°C ~ 60°C in Win2000, so you may need better VGA cooler. Catalyst added X800(old R420 core) support since beta 4.11. You may try 5.2, 5.9 and 6.2, but it is better to install 6.2 first when you want to downgrade to 5.9 or below on some PCs. I am using X800pro AGP(R420) and X850XT PCIe(R480)on my Win98se PCs. Although X800pro AGP works on Intel boards with 865 chipset, the AMD boards with ULi chipset is recommended for better compatibility and speed. Besides, modifying .inf doesn't make X1K cards work in Win98se.

Original MS driver has better compatibility than IAA. And I solved the optical drive related problems by uninstalling IAA. -
Compatible Hardware with Windows 9x

There is no Intel Application Accelerator for 875P, 865G/P/PE, 852/855 GM/GME, 855MP, 848P chipsets (ICH5 southbridge) so there is no full support for Windows 9x for these chipsets. See Intel Application Accelerator RAID Edition, Large drive support for ICH5R, but not for Win-98? thread. Tested with ICH5/848P on AOpen AX4SPB-UN motherboard, Win98SE started from PATA 40 GB drive: * PATA drives can work with generic ESDI_505.PDR drivers. * Single SATA drive is detected but not recognized (error in Device Manager), even with ESDI_506.PDR 4.10.2225 patched for 48bit LBA. * Two SATA drives cause system hang when ESDI_506.PDR driver is detecting drives. Andrzej P. Wozniak IAA will forcingly disable the DMA mode on some old CD-ROM drives, like TEAC CD524E. And IAA also caused problem when I installed MGS2, a DVD-9 based PC game. Therefore I don't think IAA is necessary when I use Win98se. I failed to format single SATA drive on GA-8I865PE775-G-RH(4.9), so I used the SATA <-> IDE adapter and formatted the SATA drive at IDE port. Then I plugged the SATA drive back to SATA port, and it has no problem with patched ESDI_506.PDR. But I only plugged one SATA drive and one IDE DVD-ROM drive. And pluging two SATA drives means you can't use IDE port. -
Compatible with CPU-Z 1.53.1 (non Win98 version) http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php CPU-Z 1.53.1 fails to show information about motherboard, memory etc, and both Win98 version and non Win98 version have same problem. I can't solve it by disabling KernelEx, but I found it only occurs on latest 1.53.1, so I think the bug has nothing to do with KernelEx. Besides, 1.53 and before have no problem.

PCSX2 0.9.4 (PlayStation2 emulator) http://pcsx2.net/ KernelEx 4.5 beta 1 works with PCSX2 TLB (non vm) version and compatible with GSdx9 0.10.0 GPU plugin. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k167/hal...ernelex/ps1.jpg SetPoint 2.60 (Logitech mouse driver for Win98/ME) http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/429/156&...cl=us,en?osid=2 It is necessary to disable/uninstall KernelEx 4.5 beta 1 during installing/uninstalling SetPoint 2.60, or SetPoint shows an error message and OS crashes. Since SetPoint 2.60 is inferior to MouseWare and doesn't support the configuration for multiple-button trackball, it is better to use MouseWare driver instead.

Firefox Portable 3.6 is faster than 3.5.7. Although Firefox 3.6 is slower than SeaMonkey 1.1.18 and Firefox 2.0.0.20 in Win98SE, it is hard to tell the difference when compared with 3.5.7.
-
Both speed and stability are as same as Firefox2, so I am satisfied with SeaMonkey 1.1.18. Maybe there is something different with 1.1.17 and 1.1.18, but I have no problem with 1.1.18. -------- Even with Flash 10.0 enabled, now Arora 0.10.0 browser becomes more stable than before. But the stablility is not good enough and Arora usually crashes.
-
When browsing websites full of flash media and images, Firefox Portable 3.5.7 is still slower than Gecko 1.8.1.23 based SeaMonkey 1.1.18. However it is fast enough to browse general websites with Fx3 now, and I also get higher score at Peacekeeper browser benchmark while using Fx3 with KernelEx 4.5 Beta 1 installed

On my PC, Flash 10 plays MP4 smoothly with Firefox 3.5 instead of Firefox 2 or Opera 9.64. But Flash 10 doesn't crash Fx2 when I browse Flash pages.
-
I use Opteron 154 with Win98se installed since 2007 and have no major problem. Flash Player 9 may crash Firefox or Opera on Japanese or Traditional Chinese Win9x/me, but it can be solved by editing NPSWF32.dll.

I installed Firefox Portable 3.0 and updated to 3.5 without problem
