Is there any means to change p4 cpu speed by software
xtrm replied to pertsajakilu's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Yes but idle is still idle and its not comparable to newer technologies that can lower vcore and cpu speed in order to use less power (like AMDs cool & quiet). -
better stop trying to write in caps =) He said he made it work by using the revolutions pack 7, there is no working version of the messenger itself.

Is there any means to change p4 cpu speed by software
xtrm replied to pertsajakilu's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Well I think he means something like lower the Vcore in order to lower the power consumption. But that's not possible I think, the CPU has to support it I believe (like the mobile CPUs for example). -
Of course, but as there DO exist some working drivers for the 6-series, you don't need it so badly compared to the 7 and 8 ones. I hope somebody with a newer card can report ASAP here if and how it works.
-
Why the hell you use these drivers when you have a 6-series geforce? The only reason and sense of this driver is to make 7- and even 8-series work on 9x. So does anybody have in fact a 7- or 8-series that works because of these? That's the interesting part here.

a) I had planned to buy a 250 gig drive and make two 125 GB partitions anyway b ) I have the ME version of defrag anyway c) I can exchange my scandiskw.exe from 98se to the ME one and it 1.) works and 2.) is better? d) I would not have any problems with my scandiskw anyway, not even with the big scan, because all of my partitions would be less than 127 gig? Am I right with C and D? If yes...why the hell did nobody tell me this? lol

I think you don't get what I mean. I just cannot use this manual override (refresh rate fix) that is built into the driver in the panel. As you should know because of my last postings here, I can of course change refresh rates to what I like them to be. I just cannot tell it that if it for some reason would switch into like 800x600, that it should use 100hz then. I would have to change it in the graphics card tab manually. I don't really care, I don't need it anyway.
-
Well I have norton AV 2002 professional, so that recycle bin stuff is on my comp anyway. I deactivated it tho. But as long as I can use normal scandisk without the big scan (which takes like 8 hours on my 120 gig), it's ok. But not being able to use defrag sucks a bit.
-
Don't use scandisk and defrag? What the...so it's basically completely senseless or I have to get an other prog to scan and defrag...that's bad. But as I would be only storing files on it, I would not have to scan or defrag too soon anyway.
-
I have to say that this refresh rate stuff on all the forceware drivers since...I don't know, the 6x.xx series I believe, does not work with me. It just gives me some error and that's it. And well, my monitors all came with installing CDs and stuff, I have not experienced any problem with that, but I only had samsung screens so far.
-
Holy cow! But I'm not gonna test it for the sake of it to find out that it doesn't work in the end. So I think I'll need a definite confirmation, maybe someone here has a setup with IAA and can tell me about it.

I don't think somebody answered my question concerning the Intel Application Accelerator on that topic, so I ask here again - I have a i850E chipset and the 2.3 Application Accelerator installed. Does this (referring the quoter of the post above) mean, that I am in fact able to use bigger harddrives than 127gb just like 2000 and XP can?

Be careful to *never* select/use frequencies that were not on the list of your particular monitor (CRT) for a specific resolution. If you do, your monitor may just die. More info: http://www.mdgx.com/newtip23.htm#OVRR HTH The sense of installing the drivers of your monitor IS to have only the resolutions listed that work with it. I do not need any advice on that =).

I don't understand all your resolution and refresh rate problems. You install the card driver, you install the screen driver, that's it. I can choose all resolutions that are working with my 17" CRT (syncmaster 797mb), up to 2048x1536 and all refresh modes like 60, 70, 72, 75, 85, 100, and if I go down with the resolution (I use 1024x768) I can get 120 or 140 too.

It would be interesting if you can run nvidia's 7-series cards with this driver. I have tried the 81.98 when I got my 6800GT but it was very bad, like a bad beta driver. I went back to an 7x.xx driver that also doesn't work 100% but at least it gives me proper performance.

Disconnect from the internet? I use DSL and I need to login to have ACCESS to the internet! I know people using cable etc. have a different setup...so well, just disconnect the cable from the modem? lol. Or don't use internet sharing if you are in a network.

Enable48BitLBA | Break the 137Gb barrier!
xtrm replied to LLXX's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
I have a slight question here. I read this topic and he's talking about the IAA and drives larger than 127 GB. Well I have the IAA 2.3 on my system (intel 850E chipset) and I want to know what I need to run drives over 127 GB properly. I thought about a 250 GB drive and two partitions with 125 each (I know they will be smaller in the end, just to get the idea). I have like 5 120 GB drives and slowly but surely it annoys me. -
Unofficial Root Certificates 2007 Update
xtrm replied to erpdude8's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Sorry for this question, but I couldn't find a quick answer - what IS this root certificates stuff all about, what does it, what is it for, why should I update it etc.? I've never really heard of it before this discussion here began. Could somebody quickly tell me what this is all about? -
Windows Update web site no longer functing for win98?
xtrm replied to 98 Guy's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Yeah right, I remember this one. But what is about the updates that microsoft tells you are only "if you encounter this specific problem"? Do you install them anyway or not? -
Windows Update web site no longer functing for win98?
xtrm replied to 98 Guy's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Does somebody have all Win98SE updates for download somewhere? I mean just 98SE, not 98 first edition, and not any IE updates either. -
I had the 81.98 driver for 9x and it worked but it sucked, so i went back to this one. And honestly, officially pci-e doesnt work with nvidia cards and 9x, i guess thats why you started the topic anyway.
-
Well outlook comes with the IE6SP1, and i dont think that .NET apps run on 9x at all. But the general order is: OS updates from microsoft, then directx, then chipset software, then other drivers like gfx, sound, ethernet etc.
-
Ehm...of course there are nVidia drivers for the 6-series, but just not for any PCI-E card. I have the 6800GT running just fine with the 71.84. But honestly, why you want a PCI-E card when you have this 6200 thing? This card isn't worth anything. IF you want to make PCI-E run on 98, then it should better be worth it i'd say.
