RyanVM Windows XP SP2 Update Pack

Recommended Posts

I mentioned this a while back, but just in case anyone missed it... decompress Ryan's pack and look at the files contained within. It takes a little bit of back and forth between different files at first to understand what's going on, but I think there's a fair amount of people here with the expertise to be able to comprehend it all.

It's an excellent source of learning as far as I'm concerned. It's also a good example of EXCELLENT documentation. The biggies out there (MS, Symantec, etc.) could learn a thing or two about documenting files from this. Actually MS isn't all that bad at documenting, it's there organization of it and the sheer volume that makes it a pain.

Personally, I learned an aweful lot about the XP/2K setup process just from this upgrade pack. Don't look for quick answers. Get out there and learn!

1.0.3 is out. Get it from the usual place. Please read the changelog and the installation directions as some things have changed from 1.0.2.

Also, I hate to point this out, but I did put a Paypal donate button on my website. If you feel so compelled, I'll gladly accept any donation you want to make. If you don't, I'll still make packs :P. This will be the only time I mention it in this thread, but I wanted to make sure people were aware of it since I had been asked about it in the past.

ryanMV: if you told me how to make those packs (just some instructions), I'd volunteer to make the dutch version of the pack... (just read in the first post that you are thinking about dropping multilanguage)

he did.

Monitors what registry keys are edited, and adds them to the INF

he replaces the updated files in I386 with the new ones from QFE i think in the hotfix file

Adds the CAT file to SVCPACK.INF

If you're just interested in making a multilingual pack, that's pretty much all that you need to do. You don't need to worry about modifying sysoc.inf or whatever. Just modify his INF file and keep the same name.

i have extracted 1.0.3 update file to i386 folder. and now windows installation is pretty much messed up. (no IE, no WMP, and etc)

i remember same thing happened to me when i extracted 1.0.2 update over 1.0.1 .. rather than doing it from clean install.

am i only one having this prob?

Yeah, I'd say so. I personally extract the files into i386 incrementally myself. I don't have a clue what you could be overwriting causing the problem.

Did you download the correct sysoc.inf for your XP version?

@RyanVM:

First of all, congratulations! very good work! Secondly, one question: will be this pack available for other languages? It would be great, so I will not have many problems updating my XPize

bye ;)

EDIT: right now I need Spanish, German, and Dutch (no Dutch Xpize officially released, but coming soon)

As you can see from the post above yours, RyanVM himself won't make translations, but other people are allowed to do that - based on his Updatepack ;)

There are already Updatepacks available for Dutch and German, correct me if I'm wrong :)
