AcidBurns
I have XP Pro running on a notebook, with which I want to dial up to the internet, however, The modem hangs up before the other end can pick up the line. It takes a couple of beeps, and immediately says the line is busy, though it is not... How can I stop the modem from automatically hanging up?Thanx:assshake AcidBurns:assshake
BAH
Hey AcidBurnsHas the laptop got compatible modem drivers with Xp....?Did the modem work with the preveouse OS....?
AcidBurns
Yes, I think it does have compatible drivers, it comes up as the right product (Onboard), and the Previous OS was Millenium Edition, however I never bothered using the modem while it was on there, so I don't know if it worked... Drewdatrip
I would try the website of the maker, they might have an update to the driver, or a fix of some sort...by the way, what type of modem is it anyway?-drew
AcidBurns
It comes up as a Win Lucent Modem, as it always has... Just about to check manufacturer's website...
LS_Dragons
That lucent 'win' modem is a 'software' modem. many of them DO NOT work very well with XP. You may have to resort to a PCMCIA card modem for functionality. but go ahead and check the site. Sooner or later, they will have to do something to support those pieces of crap win-modems. Is it a compaq presario laptop by any chance?LS
AcidBurns
No, It's a Toshiba Satellite 1710CXDS, I've downloaded some upgrades, including BIOS, and win2k modem drivers, but it still seems to be doing it...
Drewdatrip
I have seen similar situations. Try delting the modem in device manager and rebooting. Once it finds it update it with the most current xp driver or if the manufacturer lacks the xp driver, try 2000.:beer-drew
Nunovsky
Hi..The problem may not be the drivers or the XP...Check if you´re phone line is pulse or tone first and see what your computer has selected....See what kind off sound your phone line do before you dial....Uncheck the "wait for dial tone before dial"...hope this helps....:beer
