Yesterday whilst my Maxtor 300gb dive was connected i had a popup error saying something to do with usb lost information, anyway i then noticed that i had lost my usb drive (m), looking through the admin tools the drive is showing , but does not have an active partition.

does anyone know who i can get back the data i have about 25gig of system backups

Well recovered the files, and recreated partition, formated and copied back files.

Whilst i was recovering the files i connected the hard drive to my laptop and ran the program from there, this hard drive was know on my HP as drive no 6.

I do have a second drive and during unpluging i must have connected this into the same usb port as my first drive, as now i have also lost the partion on the second usb drive???

So my thinking is that the port on the PC may be the issue as i have had two usb disks connected to the same port lose its partition, therefore maybe a hardware problem with pc

any suggestions, as after running diag software on both hard drives all reports as ok no problems..

It is possible, though it would be "strange".

Do the other USB ports on the same PC work allright?

If yes, as generally the same Motherboard USB controller drives more than one port, it is possible that is a "real hardware" error (i.e. a contact in the port being intermittent, something physically bent or incorrectly inserted, a cold soldering, ...)

You can check the "tree" of your controller ports with an app like SIW:

If the controller somehow is failing, several ports, not just one will be affected.

Most probably you could do the testing with a USB stick rather than with a Hard Disk.

It could also be a problem of too much power drainage from USB ports, you could also check that....

Hi all other 6 ports are ok no problems, only issue with this one port, will run some checks as suggested thank you
