alucke Posted February 8, 2007 Author Posted February 8, 2007 I do the exact same thing when applying thermal paste. But i dont feel like messin with the Mobo, in order to get a screwdown heatsink/fan to fit. A professional computer builder friend of mine said that it doesnt make a difference whether you use a clamp on heatsink or screw-on heatsink.
ripken204 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 are there actual screw on heatsinks? ive only seen that done as a mod to either create better contact or for cpu's with the ihs removed.
puntoMX Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 vertol, snap down? what are you talking about.like in: * Use the black plastic bracket on the mobo and not with screws trough the mobo.
alucke Posted February 9, 2007 Author Posted February 9, 2007 Apparently you can mod your heatsink/fan and mobo, so you can screw down your heatsink.
puntoMX Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 A professional computer builder friend of mine said that it doesnt make a difference whether you use a clamp on heatsink or screw-on heatsink. You are right, nothing wrong with the plastic holder. We also still use them, some coolers are to big or heavy, then you will be better of to screw them on your mobo. But if you have to MOD it then leave it.
ripken204 Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 ya like ive said, just for a mod. afaik pretty much every heatsink is a snap down then.
