Can someone help me out? I'm trying to figure out what 2 NICS can be used for.

They can be used for tons of different purposes: NLB (and more aggregate BW), redundancy, routing and NAT (like sharing an internet connection), bridging networks, they can be used in vmware by guest OSes... You name it!

And that's just plain old wired ethernet adapters. There's lots of other types of network adapters, from wireless, modems, firewire, DVB cards, non-ethernet NICs (e.g. token ring), non-UTP ethernet NICs (e.g. fiber), more "specialized" network interfaces (e.g. HPNA), etc. If you count those, there's even more uses.

That's much like asking what a 2nd car could be used for...

Hello,

i have a DFI Lnaparty Board and that has 2 NICs on the board,

one is for LAN Access, and One if aimed at WAN Access, so ive been told. But as im running a server, i also have another 1Gb/s PCI NIC Card.

And i use theses for Network Load Balance :)
