hi all,

I just want to make sure that everyone in this forum try Dream linux. It is very new and it's better than most linux versions today. Yes I have tried Ubuntu and about 40 other linux versions and Dream linux is already a top performer and I believe it's just in it's 2nd release. I'm on it right now using a dialup internet connection, yeppers, most linux OS versions don't have support for dialup internet. Anyway you just have to see it to believe it, and it looks great and they use all the latest and greatest of whats available. It's fast too. I just started using a linux OS this year and man was I missing out. Please do reply and let me know what you think about this new linux OS?

thanks for reading

Would it be suitable for a Pentium II 366 laptop? Just wondering because I haven't found on that is any good (speed wise that is). Almost all Linux distro's I have tried have suffered in the performance sector.

system requirements

Dreamlinux can

work through CD

and be installed

any time.

To install, all you

need is, at least:

Pentium 3 or Athlon

over 500 Mhz

128 MB RAM

3 GB ( HD ).

If you already have the needed partitions, then you don't have to

partition your HD again.

Dreamlinux is not for older or the lesser of at least a p3, but for that you should use Mepis lite, i'm sure your laptop will work just fine with it. I purchased most from a site that sell and ships for 99 cents each and free shipping if over 10 cd's, they print the OS on it, not a label, real professional, good cd's. I wanted to test different versions, Slak,BSD, Debian and other, so i just ordered.

Thanks everyone for testing Dreamlinux and replying

oh in terms of a lite distribution there is an ubuntu lite that aparantly can run on a p166 however it does not have a partition manager and will wipe your primary hard disk for you.

I just downloaded and booted the live cd of Mepis Lite and I gotta tell you. I really like it so far, I have booted it in a VPC on my desktop, but in about 10 minutes I'm going to go downstairs and give it a shot in my PII366 laptop. If it works in that, and its speedy, I may just stay with it.

a) What type of package management does it use?

b ) Does it include proprietary blobs by default?

c) I can't tell by the screenshots. Gnome, KDE, or what?

d) The fastest you'll get on an old computer is Gentoo... or linux-from-scratch ;)

Glad you found the download for Mepis lite. Alot don't know of it and most assume it's not fast as Damm small or the others but it's as fast and with more. they are going to update it as i suggested in the forums. A OS that will run in older computers is very much needed. Mepis lite will make alot of people happy. So will Dream linux for everything else.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

  • 2 weeks later...

Downloaded a few days back but only got time to install it today. Looks ok and moves fast, but sorry to say that I'm more accustomized to windows :blushing: I'll try it on a P2 I've got laying around and if it works I'll make it a router / firewall / gateway thingy
