A buddy of mine formatted an HD of his (just a low-level windows format), and now he wants stuff off the drive, it hasn't been touched since the format, so is there any way to get the stuff back? A piece of software you would recommend?

After a normal reformat, you can use one of many dozens of free and payware data recovery programs. Just search MSFN for "data recovery" and you'll be all set.

id say even with a data recovery program the best you can recover is partial

I've used R-Studio Corporate to recover entire TV episodes (350 MBs) from an old 80 GB IDE drive which was formatted several times after I had deleted those episodes.

DigeratiPrime can second me on that as well, he's the one who recommended the software to me in the first place.

sounds like a rare app, how much does it cost,, ive used plenty of recovery apps and none seem to be up to par perhaps i should try that one for next time when im in a bind
