Lite Windows

duude you can go at it for years, according to bold_fortune, he claims it took him several years to find out all the files and what they are, of corse now with this information available I have been able to improve upon that, and create a post-install deletion script to make it work properly, if what you people are doing is to remove additional files from within the "ini"'s I strongly advise against it as it will most certainly brake your installation process, because some of those files (like ntfs.sys) are needed for the setup to work, so the only trully safe method to delete additional files from it is to delete them after installation, you can get some info about it here :

- Go over http://www.bold-fortune.com/forums/index.php?showforum=13 bold_fortune's work all from the start read every line delete every file that you can and test if it works

- read my Microsuck Winblows XP : Deleted Edition files for additional information

or just go over the entire 700 dll files manually (in the best case if you select all nLite components for removal)

reboot and test if all your system still works (and sometimes it wont) then reinstall again etc...

but if you do find out about some files which do not appear in my Deleted Edition scripts and are not required for XP SP1 or XP SP0 boot process, and you know what those files are doing, let me know.

Hi, well, there's been no more updates in this post because the fórum stoped warning me of new messages (why oh why?!)... But worry not, i'm here now and i'm hopping to get this post further developed, deleting more files from the XP source.

If it's any help, here's a command for MS PowerShell (MS's equivalent of a Unix shell) that will take all files and sort them by size (ignoring folders)

cd \windows

get-childitem -recurse | sort Length > files.txt

Of course PowerShell is a meaty install itself but you can always enable file sharing on your Lite box and install PowerShell on a meaty box and run the command on the file share. Despite, at least you have a list that you can run down and target the largest files.

As the list of files is very extensive i thought about creating a very simple web page where we could track the deletable, the undeletable and the untested files, so the post doesn't gets too big to read. What you think guys?

Thank you antonio_king :)

Keep in mind that the files being tested here are only the files remaining from the most complete shrinking possible by nLite. Files that don't appear in txtsetup.sif after that, don't mater :P
