got a machine that carnt open .exe and .ink files

i've only got the hard drive.

can i fix the registery easily if i put it in my pc and open remote registry!?

You won't be able to access it via Remote Registry; that only works on a running system. What you'll need is some sort of "offline" registry editor. After some Googling I found this: Registry Tool. There's a trial version that may be enough for what you're trying to do.

You can use RegeditPE https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.p...group_id=107708.

It's free, it's just an executable. It's for PE environment, but run great on standard winxp system.

Load hives from the other disk then edit your needs and when you exit the program, hives are updated.

If you can remove the HD and put in your own PC then regedit > load hive should suffice.

MS WinPE or BartPE can also load hive.

But it looks a clean reinstall is probably the best option. Machines that can't open exes are usually the result of virus infections.

ntpasswd, primarily used for resetting lost passwords, also has a working (but rather crude) registry editor that runs off a floppy with a Linux kernel. I had to use this to correct a non-booting system (mistake I made - accidentally deleted the PATH environment variable )

I'll add to Takeshi answer this : if you're using a windows 2000 to rescue another os, you'll simply need to launch regedt32, select the key HKEY_LOCAL_Machine, go to menu file load hive and then select your defective windows drive and go to winnt or windows then system32 then config and select the file system (for HLKM\system) or software ( for HKLM\software) then you'll be prompted to enter a name (entre whatever you want). Launch regedit and you'll see under HKLM\"whatever you wanted" the loaded registry.

XP and 2K3 regedit will allow you to do this without the need of regedt32.
