Hi,

I purchased 1gb of DDR2 667MHz ram for my new pc (am2, athlon64 x2 4200+), but when i put the new ram in the system didn't even post. put the old 512chip back in and it was fine again. Is this a faulty ram chip or is there something im missing here?

my dad has had similar problems somewhat like that, where one stick is DDR2, another is [whatever you call it] old RAM. your computer may not recognize DDR2, or its a faulty chip.

also, smaller RAM chips [in terms of MB] always go in slot 1. larger chips always go in slot 2. if they're equal it doesn't matter.

bonestonne is going in the right direction; it’s the chip size. The RAM is just incompatible with the motherboard ;).

so you're saying a 1gig stick wont work? im finding this hard to be true b/c afaik all am2 boards can have a minimum of 1gig per slot.

Chip-size not module-size ;). AM2 boards are a bit more picky on RAM then S775, but I even found S775 motherboards that won’t accept 667MHz even when the specs say it will.
