According to Winxperts :

Microsoft Moves Towards RTM With Release Of Build 5717 To TechNET Subscribers. The General Public will not be seeing anymore builds from Microsoft until its final release In January 2007. Microsoft is scheduled to release new builds to Tech Beta Testers, Technology Adoption Program members and Technet/MSDN subscibers throughout the next few months, these builds are now "RTM" Builds as Microsoft has Delivered RC1 it has now "Forked" the development to start working on RTM Builds, so anything we see or hear about will be from the RTM Branch of Development.

I have vista beta 5384.made disk for rc1. boot from cd.----upgrade not available from boot.-- said install from windows. oops ! had to edit If you read original click install not upgrade from inside vista . sorry microsoft.

Build 5717 will not be the RTM. There have been a lot of builds since that (old one).

Don't be fooled by the build numbers. Sometimes they jump to the next hundred just because of build forking.

The RTM build WILL be 57XX - we just don't know which one yet!

Actually, you are wrong. The RTM version could be anywhere from the 57xx series to the 59xx series. However, the build number of the final release will be MANUALLY changed to build 6000. So, technically, the RTM build number is 6000.

In case anyone is still wondering, build 5717 is part of the RTM fork and was released recently to TAP testers. TAP will receive weekly builds until Vista is finalized. Despite reports, build 5717 will NOT be released to Connect. Nevertheless, TechBeta testers will still continue receive various builds.

Vista, at this point, is expected to be finalized on October 25. However, this date is likely to change based on Microsoft's often unpredictable delays.

Do you know if any of the RTM fork builds will make it onto Connect?

Answering my own question: Yes.

5728 now on Connect.

Which is now the newest build.

I don't follow this all the time. Can someone tell.
