hougtimo Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Hi,my Mum's A64 system is refusing to boot up this morning. Basically, I turn it on, and it detects the CPU and hangs. I can't get into the BIOS and non the the keys (numlock / caps) work. I have tested the RAM, Hard Drive etc...I am thinking it might be the PSU?I am not sure of the Motherboard, but it uses an ATI xpress chipset (fairly sure its an MSI board), athlon64 3200+, 600w PSU, 160gb Maxtor SATA.Hope someone can help!HougTimo
boooggy Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 u got 2 options try with another mobo or a different harddrive.....
hougtimo Posted August 21, 2006 Author Posted August 21, 2006 I've tried different hard drive, still didnt work. So you reckon its the mobo?
LLXX Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Heatsink is firmly secured and in good contact with CPU?
hougtimo Posted August 21, 2006 Author Posted August 21, 2006 Yes indeed. took it back to the supplier today. Looks like it was hit by a power surge. The mobo, hard drive and vid card have all been knocked out. Even though it was plugged into a surge protector and had an nbuilt one in the psu. anywhoo, its all being covered by warranty
puntoMX Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 "Looks like it was hit by a power surge."That´s no warranty . Try to get a better power supply if posible, less watts and a brand like Enermax or Antec, just get a 350 to 480 or so .
ripken204 Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 haha. that must have been a s***ty psu then, what model was it?
Thunderbolt 2864 Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Looks like a faulty motherboard. I'll bring it to a computer store and get it checked.
