Onomus Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Alright, I was actually really excited for Mac OS X Leopard. I watched the WWDC conference however I was disgusted. Steve Jobs, and the people talking that day were being so childish. They kept bashing Vista, while Vista has GLASS. Glass IMO looks a hell of a lot cooler than Aqua. Steve Jobs would "stfu" about Vista and how "Microsoft copied Tiger!" "They stole RSS!" "They stole email!" "They stole the idea of a calender program!"What in the name of God is wrong with you people. Paul Thurrott's opinion I completely agree with this guy 100% he's got it right on. Congratulations Apple, you've finally taken up 2% of the market! (sorry if that looks like flaming on my first post. )
ripken204 Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 you are flaming and that is not allowed here! we all know that MS has stolen pretty much all of the operating sytems that Apple/Mac has put out there. there is no need to yell at us for this just b/c we use windows. you just said that apple take up 2% of the market! so you're going to go yell at the other 98% of ppl b/c they use windows? personally i think that you need to get a life. i like mac alot but i cant install it on my pc so thats why i dont use it.
ricktendo Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 I like macs there coolSteve Jobs an Aple are resposible for many cool inovations in tech

Definitely not "stolen" - there is no theft involved. And since you're getting "but only Apple innovates" on us, then that pretty tells us how you think. I suppose Apple has invented the GUI, the mouse, calendaring apps and all. Nobody else is entitled to do the same either, that'd just be copying or something. Software and computers has ALWAYS been copying concepts from each other. Everybody makes CPUs, everybody has GUIs, there are TONS of apps to do any specific task. Just like there are tons of manufacturers of car tires, TVs or basically anything else. Yet, you don't see any company whining "but they've copied us!" all the time. Good ideas are adopted, end of story.MS *DID* steal some stuff (like stacker's code), or copy others. But hardly any of it was Apple related in any way (and much of that was from someone else in the first place). Most of what Apple did recently could be called copying just as much - after all, the iPod is just a copy of the original mp3 player (the MPMan), right? Both have buttons, a screen, memory, a volume control, a headphone jack, and play mp3s! Total ripoff! All of it! They didn't invent it, so it must not be worth using or something I suppose...And when other OS'es or apps do just the same, they don't get trashed for "copying others" or such.I'm no fan of Thurrott, but he's right on this time.Quit whining, and make something good/worth using (at a half decent price), and people will buy & use it.BTW. Toshiba's Gigabeat is the ultimate iPod killer!
Onomus Posted August 10, 2006 Author Posted August 10, 2006 Sorry if it seemed like flaming. It just really irritates me that Apple has the arrogance to do such a thing when 98% of the market isn't their's.The thing that made me angry was that they basicly were implying that Aero is an Aqua clone. If I see an OS X Tiger desktop with a finder window open and a Windows Vista Beta 2 desktop with an explorer window open, I see no barely any similarities. "They copied our Spotlight"I don't think the Start Menu finder is "copying" Spotlight. It was in the start menu in the first place as a button. So why not make it more convenient and put it as a separate search bar? It seems like an upgrade. Microsoft didn't just see Spotlight and copy it. "They copied our RSS"Wait, what? RSS was out before Safari. You guys(Apple) act like you invented RSS. "They copied our Apple Mail"Look Apple, you didn't come up with the e-mail. Having another mail program doesn't mean Microsoft turned your precious Apple Mail into a Win32 Application."They copied our iCal."Oh, now you're saying you invented the calender too? Just because a program has a calender and text in the date boxes doesn't mean it's a clone. "They even put a Aqua bubble around there logo"Oh for crying out loud Apple. That's just silly. The Vista logo looks fine, it works fine, and you just want to point it out to make us PC users feel like we're missing out. Things about Vista that have potential-Flip 3D - This is a replacement for the Win + Tab command. It adds a nice little flipping animation to it.-Glass effect - This just looks cool. I can't wait to mess around with this.-IE7 - It has tabs! Thank goodness! This runs faster and with less RAM usage(it's still in beta) than firefox.-Windows Media Player 11 - Okay, they sorta copied off of Quicktime. As you can see the big "Play/Pause" button in the middle sorrounded by the fast forward and rewind buttons. Also, Apple "copied" Suse Linux. That spaces thing is something I would use over 5 years ago. It's four desktops and each has it's own apps on it. Apple has done a good job with the animations and innovating with the dock though.
LLXX Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 I don't really care for either Vista nor OSX, IMHO they're both just excessively graphical bloated GUIs.The animations and graphics seem nice at first, but eventually you'll tire of them.

Heck, I find that KDE has too much eyecandy - it seems the latest version that's integrated into Kubuntu, has a vista-inspired theme by default - it's too much graphics for me.
ripken204 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 right now im not really sure if i will get vista for a long time. i'll prolly test it out when it first comes out but i doubt that i will use it as my main OS. when dx10 games become a standard in prolly 2 years, thats when i will upgrade to vista.
Camarade_Tux Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 "They copied our RSS"Wait, what? RSS was out before Safari. You guys(Apple) act like you invented RSS. -> Safari is (mostly) open-source. Why ?Because they use KHTML, Konqueror's rendering motor."They copied our iCal."Oh, now you're saying you invented the calender too? Just because a program has a calender and text in the date boxes doesn't mean it's a clone.I'm wondering how old is Rainlendar.-IE7 - It has tabs! Thank goodness! This runs faster and with less RAM usage(it's still in beta) than firefox.I doubt Apple was first to introduce tabs....
Zxian Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 Does it really matter who did it first? Just because Henry Ford made the first publicly available car, does that mean that Fords are the best today? Come on people!I honestly don't care who came up with what first. If there's a feature in both OSes, all that really matters in the end is which one does it better. When I say that I think <insert feature here> works better, it might not be better for you. Both sides have copied features from the other. Why really cares? All that gets you in the end is bragging rights... not necessarily customers.
Camarade_Tux Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 It doesn't matter so much. And as far as I'm concerned, I just wanted to point out they also copied so they shouldn't say anything. There's only Safari which is incredible : they really have nothing to say, engine was already written, they only ported it (it relied on Qt and KDE)
