i think it's not problem with HDD because.

others HDD also sometimes stop working

i think it's a problem with Mainboard

then try ur hdds in another motherboard

And post some more info like : nForce2 chipset with Soundblaster Live! or something . Next time start with it please...

every thing works in vista

but in xp some files are not working from the 160GB HDD

what psu is it? 500w for one psu may not be the same as 500w for another, there are hugh quality differences.

How do you have your connections to the devices from the power cable. Having one cable line to on drive with a lower useage device

PSU > Fan > Hard Drive

PSU > Hard Drive

PSU > Hard Drive

and so on.

Some power supplies do not link to have more then one high demanding device on the same line.

In terms of system stability, how do you have your partitions layed out.
