Shindo_Hikaru
I have researched this board, their seems to be alot of memory incompatablies which causes alot of freezes or random reboots. However their is new BIOS revisons that suppose to help reduce these events. ASUS own page regarding suppose memory compatabities is not even working. I have narrowed down the causes of these freezes/reboots to incompatble memory, the chipset itself or AMD's own processors which from what i have gather is partly the cause. Their is however two different sets of BIOS revisions, one for 2.0 boards only and the others listed on their site.
LordFett
check in the event viewer for an errorNada.A bunch of stuff about a board that used to rock and now sucks.Hmm, maybe it is time to find another Socket A board then. I wish I still had the 512mb I got with the board, but I upgraded and sold that stick when I got my new computer.Anyone recomend a good Socket A with AGP and will work with my AMD 2700 and don't have memory issues? This system used to be rock solid.Hmm doesn't look like there is too much Socket A stuff out there. I guess the next step up would be a 754? 3000+ AMD and an ASUS board for about $160?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813138247 & http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813138247 Edited July 30, 2006 by LordFett

puntoMX
I’m just going to watch where this going too... Shindo_Hikaru and ripken204, I have the strange feeling you are pointing LordFett in the wrong direction, but well, who am I to feel that ...LordFett, did you read what I posted? "I would try another power supply and also check the core if it´s not damaged eg. look for broken corners."And if you switch to S754, go for an ASRock K8NF4G-SATA2 NF4 integrated graphics board (nVIDIA GeForce 6100), or the AM2 version of this board. Nice price and rock stable. Remember that ASRock is a daughter company of ASUS .Gigabyte works but it´s not the best brand in the marked... Shindo_Hikaru
My sister has the exact ASUS mobo, and it was doing the same things, along with random reboots. I have upgraded the bios, disabled serial and printer ports, only has ATI video card, and using intergrated sound. I have talked to ASUS tech regarding these events during my troubleshooting process, they had no real answers. I called Nvidia regarding the chipsets in the board, they gave no real answers except to talk to ASUS. I have stablized the board for now, but as for the lenght of time before it starts again i do not know, also this PC is not used for any gaming but for Office use. LordFett
LordFett, did you read what I posted? "I would try another power supply and also check the core if it´s not damaged eg. look for broken corners."No I missed this post because you posted while I was posting. I'll try swapping out the PSU. When I installed the cooljag I checked the cpu and didn't see any damage. I will check again. Thanks for the suggestion. And if you switch to S754, go for an ASRock K8NF4G-SATA2 NF4 integrated graphics board (nVIDIA GeForce 6100), or the AM2 version of this board. Nice price and rock stable. Remember that ASRock is a daughter company of ASUS.Thanks for the tip. No I didn't know that ASRock was part of ASUS. I figured they were trying to ride Asus' coat tails. I've never been big on integrated graphics cards, I'll take a look around and see what else they've got to offer.@Shindo_Hikaru is there a list of compatable memory for this board?Check the capacitors. If you see any that are bulging or leaking, there's the problem.Interesting. Going over the board now.
ripken204
IF you decided that you really do want to upgrade than either get s939 or am2. the only thing with am2 is that u will also have to get some ddr2 but that stuff is extremely cheap now, a gig for under 100$. but u already have a nice comp so i dont really see the point.. puntoMX
S939 is almost dead Ripken, so indeed with his RAM a S754 would be the best option .

Replace only the board and/or cpu. Thats why i was looking at the 754s or even sticking with a socket a. heck if i could just get memory that was compatable with this board that would be the best. $175 is the outside most i can spend on this right now.u already have a nice comp so i dont really see the point..Thanks, always nice when someone tells you that you have a nice rig. The one I am having a problem with is my daughters. Right now she is having to game on my laptop hooked up to her monitor.

Also for future expansion you can throw in a PCI-E .
