Stix
Ok , well I've partially figured it out .....Large pic hereThe file I hacked was I386/WINNTBBU.DLL ( I use resource Hacker )-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The main background is bitmap 103 ( 256 colours )Bitmaps 100 , 101 , 102 are for the logo in the top left. Dunno why there are 3 - different resolutions maybe ?Bitmaps 185 to 188 are for the flashing activity glyphs in the bottom right.Bitmaps 104 , 105 , 109 are for the Status buttons on the left. You can change the text that is displayed by editing the String Table entries.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Once you're done editing you need to recompress the dll to winntbbu.dl_ to do this , open a cmd prompt in the I386 folder and type: "makecab winntbbu.dll" it'll create the winntbbu.dl_ for ya.Thats all I've figured out at the moment , have fun

Bachus
Is there a way to change the text color? I've got an idea...
Stix
Dunno about changing the text colour , but you can change its size in string table 2 , item 16="9" change the 9 to a smaller number and the text is altered.
Aaron
Is it possible to change the text too?EDIT: I notice I have a WINNTBBU.DLL and a compressed WINNTBBU.DL_ on my CD, which one am I supposed to edit?
Stix
Yep , you can change the text.you need to edit the winntbbu.dll and then compress it :open a cmd prompt in the I386 folder and type: "makecab winntbbu.dll" it'll create the winntbbu.dl_ for yaThe compressed file is then used during setup.I look forward to seeing some nifty new setup screens sometime soon
Aaron
Not bad for my first attempt, need to work on the top text as the bitmap itself is 1024 res, and setup uses 800x600 in Virtual PC, hence the windows xp logo overlaying the text I placed. Thank you. That being said, maybe we could make a new topic board where everyone posts pictures of their XP Setup screens? It'd be a good way to get idea's i think. b0r3d
Can someone give me a hand please? When i use resource hacker to replace the main bitmap (the background) i get an access violation, and it wont load/save the main bitmap. The exact error states:"Access violation at address 0040279 in module 'ResHacker.exe'. Write of address 011F0000"I have no idea whats wrong
Stix
b0r3d , You're welcome - just keep yer hands to yerself As for your problem , did you convert the background to 8 bit ( 256 colours ) before trying to import it ?On another note , if you're going to edit the display text , include a "|" before each word. It stops setup from splitting the words in half when it wraps the text . ie " |MSFN, |is |cool.."BTW , I've just popped the cherry of the new setup screen sticky thread
