XP_2600, what version of Windows is installed on the Toshiba Portege 3480CT laptop computer?

The sound card drivers might be bad or not installed correctly.

Go to the following Toshiba support site:

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su...kceghdgngdgnj.0

and look for the Sound Drivers for the Portege 3480CT notebook PC. Then download and install the correct sound card drivers.

see if this helps your problem.
