Thunderbolt 2864
Why would you want to install this piece of s*** WGA for anyway? No offense, just curious. Waste of time, waste of space and waste of effort. I heard it gives people problems even with a legit copy of XP.
NateSmith
because if you go to windows update it is a high priority update and most people install it to stay current with windows update...
janus zeal
true, but if it thinks there is .000001% chance you have a copyed os it turns xp in to nag-ware

Thunderbolt 2864
The last time I checked, which was yesterday, WGA is not available on the Windows Update site anymore. I guess people were nagging to Microsoft and they probably withdrew it. Edited October 17, 2006 by Thunderbolt 2864

Andromeda43
The internet help forums are full of gripes about the false positives generated by WGA.I've had to take several service calls from customers who have legal installs of XP that were getting the nag screen from WGA on every boot-up.I wrote a little batch file to completely remove WGA. Then, in Windows Update you can tell it to NOT download WGA, like, ever again. But for anyone to actually want to put that thing on their PC is bonkers! Or, at the very least, ILL Advised! That's like wanting a big wart on your nose.Cheers Maties! B)

severach
Their servers couldn't handle the load of several million PCs connecting to them to check if they're "genuine"...Unlikely since it doesn't self remove. All that happens is that it won't come back if you remove it. It sounds to me like a ploy to improve their chances at winning the class action lawsuits. As far as I'm concerned, "We're not distributing WGA any more but the already distributed copies are still running" doesn't cut the mustard. It was surupticiously installed by Windows Update and it should also be removed by it without requiring user intervention.
