i have a very very old optical drive it is still useful except for the fact that the doors won't open anymore if i press the eject button, is it still repairable?

if you take the faceplate off, you could see if the button is damaged and/or missing.

The cost of repairing most likely exceeds the cost of replacing, so if ejecting the CD through My Computer is too inconvenient, your best bet is to replace it.

With new drives you get a long thin pokey thing, about an inch long, that goes in the small hole on the face plate. Using this you can get the tray open.

Of course this doesn't help you if you havent got one!!

you can always make one from a paper clip.

that's what i'm doing currently.. and i'm thinking of replacing it anytime soon.. thanks for the help

CD-ROM drives aren't expensive, anyway. Unless you're going for a Pioneer or LG, those babies are top-notch.

Try cleaning the eject switch contacts?
