[INT] Vonage Setup

i am thinking of getting vonage and i have some questions about it. so there is a phone adapter that hooks up to my router and this adapter allows for 2 phones to be plugged in. so this means that i can only use the phone that is directly plugged into the adapter? so what about the other phones in my house, i cant use those? is there some way to get my other phones to work? if not then the only other way i can think of is to get one of those main phones that allows you to buy multiple wireless phones for it, but that would be costly.

I have vonage and yes you will be able to use

all the other phones in the house with the

1 router box that they give you with no additional hardware.

I have 2 cordless phones that work with vonage.

But keep in mind a TECH hook our system up.

My bet is that the tech guy took one of the phone ports in his box and connected it to the main line (which usually goes into the house) which gets split up to all the connections in the house.

No we didn't pay for the tech but the tech guy wasn't from vonage.

It was a tech from my sisters job.Vonage is not going to send u a tech

either do it yourself or have somebody that know this kinda of

stuff do it for you.

any chance of asking him what he did? and can u just plug any phone into any phone line and it will work? if so then i think gamehead is right.

edit: how about if i plugged the vonage adapter straight into my phone jack? ive heard of setting up a home network that way, maybe vonage will work that way too.

It will depend upon the type of phone you are plugging in. If the phone you are using has it's own power supply you should be able to plug in as many as you want. If it's an older phone which used the power supplied by the phone company then 2 will be the limit.

The easiest way to get it to all of the phones in your house is to disconnect the phone company from the interface box where they come in and hook your vonage voip box in its place.

I use Sunrocket for my voip provider and only had a problem with my wireless and the cordless phones they gave me interfering with each other. Otherwise I have 4 individual phones hooked up without a problem and they say you can only use two also.

I ended up going the route of buying a Panasonic base station that can have up to seven satellite phones. The base comes with one handset and I bought one additional. That's plenty really - one for each floor. At the VoiP adapter itself I plugged in a two way splitter, one to the cordless phone base and one to my HP OfficeJet for FAXing.

It's all worked out pretty good so far saving me about $65 a month compared to the Verizon landline plan I had previously. I have the Linksys PAP2 plugged into a WRT54. I enabled QoS giving the PAP2 highest priority. Since I did that my wife hasn't complained at all about the quality of a call.

well thats a huge downside, since most of the phones i have are "older"

and i cant put the vonage box where the phone line comes in, b/c my cable modem has to hook into it and my phone line comes in from the basement...

I was pretty much in the same boat as you and in the end I just said screw it and went ahead anyway. I figure saving $65 a month should make up for the $250 I spent on new phones before too long. The other consideration for me was that my cable modem went down maybe two times in the last seven years, where my phone line went down probably a dozen in the same time. So here's a good laugh - as soon as I disconnect my landline, some small animal ate through my cable line

Its 2 plugs on the inside of your telephone box on the outside of your

house you have to unplug.Then hook up your vongage box to the modem and you should be set.

leave all the phones plug in.you have to test the chords 1 by 1 when you unplung them to see if you

still have a telephone connection.

ive read a few guides and i understand it pretty well now. i also just got a phone base with 2 wireless phones that use plugs only, so ill be set for phones, only 60$

well now i have vonage and cable internet. vonage works but what i need to do now is to connect it to the whole house. but i am not allowed to disconnect myself from the outside line until vonage complets my number transer, which takes at least 20 days!

my mom needs a phone in another room for her business immediety... now what am i suppose to do? i am thinking of rewiring the phone line where it comes into the house, and have it hook up to a single phone jack which i will place right next to that incoming line.

Your last post said that you have mutiple wireless handsets...won't one of those do the trick? That is how my VoIP is setup.

i do, but the base phone is not in the same room as the vonage adapter is, it is in our home's office
