Original boot floppy and boot CD for 98/98SE/ME

Does anybody have original boot floppy and boot CD for Windows 98, 98SE and Millennium Edition, FPP and/or OEM?

I know that there are many websites like http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm but they contain modified floppy disks for routine use only and not the original ones used for install. The install floppy/cd-rom contains CONFIG.SYS with lines like:

[menu]
menuitem=SETUP_CD, Start Windows 98 Setup from CD-ROM.
menuitem=CD, Start computer with CD-ROM support.
menuitem=NOCD, Start computer without CD-ROM support.
menudefault=SETUP_CD,30

CDROMs from MSDN are not bootable and I'd like to have CDROMs that looks like the original ones.

I know that there are many other ways how to make bootable CD but still if would be nice to have the original boot record.

There are many utilities for creating the boot image for CDs, like http://www.winiso.com/ that can

- Make boot file from floppy

- Save boot information to file

Simple utility for extracting the boot image from CD is BBIE here: http://www.nu2.nu/bbie/

Many utilities for creating image from floppy are here: http://www.fdos.org/ripcord/rawrite/

Try http://oldfiles.org.uk/powerload/bootdisk.htm

The OEM disks typically did require the OEM to install their own drivers, because at the release of Win9x, many computers were relying on their sound-card to get to the cd-rom. IDE stuff did not turn up to a bit later, and i don't recall Microsoft ever distributing a cdrom driver with Windows 9x.

Also most of the Win9x disks in circulation were not bootable, because they were meant to start from an already running system or boot disk.

I've done a lot of work with Windows ME.

I found several admirable traits in ME that were missing in 98/SE.

Being able to partition and format a 120 gig HD was just one of them.

I carry a Windows ME boot floppy and CD with me on every call. Ya jus never know when you'll need one of them.

I took the original disk made by Windows ME and did some customizing and enhancing of my own.

Then I put copies of both the floppy and the CD on My Download Website.

wnMEboot.exe is the floppy boot disk creator program

ME-Boot CD.exe is the ISO file from which you can create a boot CD.

From this simple disk you can totally set up a new HD to receive any OS.

It also has some neat little cleanup routines included.

It's all menu driven with a nice little ansi-color menu.

Download it and take a look.

The FD version will create the boot floppy for you.

The CD version is an ISO and any decent CD burning software should be able to

convert that ISO to a bootable CD.

I use only Nero, and I know it can.

Let me know by PM if you run into any problems.

Good Luck,
