murvun Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 (edited) I'm already using HFEXPERT\WIN and HFEXPERT\WIN\SYSTEM32 to put some files wihtout oem-folders on my computer.but only as a replacement for $OEM$\$$\ and $OEM$\$$\system32mostly using *.cpl with there *.cpi - because only then I have icons to click on.and some screensaver too.but as you can see here:OEM methode on german-nlitethere are more folders in the oem-structure - I'm intrested in $OEM$\$PROGS\ and $OEM$\$DOCS\DEFAULT USER\Startmenü and $OEM$\$DOCS\DEFAULT USER\Anwendungsdaten\ Is that possible too with hfslip?thanx Edited April 28, 2006 by murvun
tommyp Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 If you didn't have any OEM folders, it's not possible to copy files/folders to other than Windows or Winnt (or whatever you have it specified as) at the text mode level. One way I see how to do it would be to create a sfx file that puts the files in the right place. Creating an SFX file of your stuff is out of scope for HFSLIP. Why not just create an OEM structure yourself and put the correct switches in your winnt.sif file? That is all that they are showing on that link you provided.
murvun Posted April 28, 2006 Author Posted April 28, 2006 (edited) thanx for helping me thinking: text mode level is the secret - and the restriction to dos names...all: have a nice weekend! Edited April 28, 2006 by murvun
tain Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Why not just create an OEM structure yourself and put the correct switches in your winnt.sif file? That is all that they are showing on that link you provided.Because that is a pain the booty Which is why I have a link to this in my sig.
Tomcat76 Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 I think HFSLIP can be made to handle this in various ways; it just depends on how flexible it needs to be.BTW... There's an error on that page you're linking to. "DEFAULT USER" is NOT "MeinName". Windows setup normally cannot even know what your name is before you get to the post-install wizard. I don't know off hand, but "Default User" is called "Default User" in German too (it's not translated on Dutch versions of Windows). Its purpose is to copy everything you put there into any newly created user profile (including "MeinName").
spazmire11 Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 i would think it is very easy to move this stuff anywere, just make a hsfslip folder in the windows directory and make a bat run from detatched programs or something
tommyp Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 TC, If you're thinking of doing this, be careful with duplicate file names, files with spaces, non-8.3 filenames, 4 character extension filenames. It's far easier using the oem folder IMHO.
Tomcat76 Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Duplicate file names would be a show stopper. I don't intend to use CABs anymore because some people seem to be using an alternate version of expand.exe. It's not worth the trouble in that case.@spazmire11: That's more or less what I had in mind.
