You couldn't even install MCE over Home anyways, because MCE is more like Pro than Home.

MCE is PRO

Foreigners don't know about use of CAPITALS :(

XP MCE is a completely separate OS from normal XP home edition...

If you don't want to purchase MCE I recommend checking out HTPC News for some good 3rd party solutions. Some of them are even free.
