Anybody here knows an alternative other than nero 7? this software gives me a hell of a day. i dont know how many dvd+r melody ive thrown in the trash.any suggestions?

maybe its not nero maybe its your disks, you could have a bad batch, try using different media. just a suggestion.

I would also like to know. Something Free and if possible, Open-Source (I love OSS)

well i did a quick search on google and i found these free burning programs, but i doubt that they even come close to nero... but to each there own. You could also try Alcohol 120% or Roxio Easy Media Creator...

DeepBurner has a free version.

I've been using it for about 2 months and it does everything I need.

I use CDBurner XP Pro - http://www.cdburnerxp.se/ This is my favorite program..it works great. I also like MagicISO - http://www.magiciso.com which is not free, but you can burn up to a 300M image with the trial version.
