I have a Celeron D 2.53 ghz 533mhz fsb socket lga775 CPU and a Gigabyte 8s648fxp-rz(-c) socket 478 motherboard, which one would be better to keep and what would you reccomend getting. Keeping in mind that i will be overclocking and having dual display.

Socket 478 processors are becoming more difficult to find. I'd say drop the motherboard and replace it with a Socket 775 board. This'll give you more options when you decide to upgrade that Celeron.

The Celeron 2.4 Northwood (478) is very overclockable. You should be able to get at least 3GHz from it. I have one running at 3.2 with stock cooling and voltage, and have seen as high as 3.7GHz with better cooling.

This is the info on there site:

925XE7AA-8EKRS

5xx Sequence

520, 521, 530, 531, 540, 540J, 541, 550, 551, 560, 560J, 561, 570, 570, 571

6xx Sequence

630, 540, 650, 660, 670

P4 EE Series

3.4G/800, 3.46G/1066, 3.73/1066

So there are no 3xx Sequence CPUs (Celeron D) on there list, you have to stick with the 915 chipset if you want a Foxconn motherboard. Read also this: http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/roundu...5-chipsets.html . I hope you have enough information now ;)

The 945 series chipsets support 533MHz CPUs as well...and will provide for 64-bit if he decides to upgrade the CPU later.

Personally, I'd be looking at the Asus P5PL2. It even supports the newer 65nm dual-core CPUs so it should have a pretty good life cycle.
