alsiladka Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 I was waiting when something like this would happen. Online defragger. Now you can test PerfectDisk7 as an Online Defragger. Subscriptions start at $19.95 , whereas you can have a 15 day trial.PerfectDisk Live
Gouki Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Nothing against you buddy, but I have to say this: One of the most stupid things I have ever seen. Why would someone want to do a Defrag on a WWW site? Im keeping with my Windows default.
DigeratiPrime Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 actually i think this is a smart idea. i could really simplify administration too.# No software to install, license, and maintain# No maintenance or software assurance fees# The latest updates to PerfectDisk - automatically
Gouki Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Do you have to do any of those things with Windows default (built-in) Defragmenter? No.I would not relly on this Defragmenter to any servers I could be responsable, as for workstations, I dont see why Windows default (who was made by Diskeeper) cant do the job.Not trying to be a smart @ss, I just dont see much use for this idea.
alsiladka Posted February 21, 2006 Author Posted February 21, 2006 @Gouki Well , i guess if you stick with Windows Defragger , than you would also stick with IE , Windows Fax and Picture viewer , WMP , Windows Messenger. Thay all do what they are supposed to do. In that sense this software market should not really be such a vast one?The thing is these people specialise in their particular fields and make advanced apps in that field. Now i guess that perfect disk and Diskeeper on the systems can be power munchers. But if you want to use there advanced features , what can you do then on a low end pc?This is the answer, a Live service instead of installing those big apps , run them through the net. I liked the concept , am waiting for the LIVE stuff to invade nearly all the areas.
Tarun Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 PerfectDisk is actually the best defragment utility out there.
alsiladka Posted February 21, 2006 Author Posted February 21, 2006 PerfectDisk is actually the best defragment utility out there. Lets not start with which one is the best and all in the News forum. We have the software hangout forum for the discussions. Lets just stick to news and releases over here
Gouki Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 What I should stick it, or not, is my bussines. I never said a thing about Browsers, IM or any other applications the Windows brings by default.I agree with the part of running this applications in a "Live" mode can be something good. You are right. Maybe I was a little hard on my first post.
Tarun Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 The down side to it being online is that with the browser window open, it don't move those files in use.I prefer to run a few cleaners, then defrag with minimal items running.
LLXX Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 (edited) Is that just downloading their software and running it on your own machine, or are they reading and writing your disk sectors over the Internet? If it's the first, what's the point? Downloading the software and then running it at any time is much more convenient than having to always use internet connection... or you could just save their software as it was being downloaded If it's the second, I wouldn't trust some server far away over the Internet to be rearranging the sectors on my hard drive... especially if 'net connection cuts out halfway through the process! EchoNoise Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 LLXX has a point... what if the net cuts out... pointless i think...I mean its a good idea and all, but to put it in a administrators P.O.V... its useless... its good to get just a defragger that can connect to remote clients and do them from a server
Crash&Burn Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Do you have to do any of those things with Windows default (built-in) Defragmenter? The windows defrag tool can only unfragment 4KB cluster partitions, and thats it.

Exactly. And I doubt is does everything over the internet with no app installed.
