What and why is this here in C:\I386 , it has alot of files , even some of them look like they are duplicates of files in C:\WINDOWS?? The size > 808 MB . Can I get rid of them? Can I delete the file?

Err you might want to take a look at your title...it kind of does not make sense but anyway I think it is the directory where Windows files are stored so when you update or do some changes to your operating system itself, when it requires some files it wont ask for your OS CD.

Those would be your Windows installation files. Don't delete them unless your HDD is low on space and you have them on CD already! It's very common for OEMs to not even supply a recovery disk with the Windows files on it, but to just put them on the HDD.

LLXX is right. OEMs builder doesn't give any supports now, so the I386 folder from original xp support is copied to HDD to allow uninstall/install components of windows without any cd insertion. If you delete it, you can't add new windows components.

if you want the space, copy it to another hd or dvd and delete it

then if windows ever asks for the disc, show it the path, or use the dvd

Alright, Can I put them in a zip file and just leave that in C: > It's like way to big to put on a disc.!!

you could do that, but its already compressed so will still be massive

you could copy it onto two cd's just split the folders, if it cannot find a file on one disc, it'll ask for it, then just but the 2nd disc in

This is commen in branded pc, they have OEM version, and i386 is the source for windows.

You can backup entire folder on CD/DVD, and change the source path to your CD drive.

I think there will be no problem.

Am Splitting into tow folders and putting it on a cd-rw, after I go buy more, thought I had a few blanks! LOL!
