I have just formatted my computer because there was lots of problems with it.But now I am facing one of the problems I had before.My shutdown process takes a long time to execute.

What can I do to fix it?

When I ask to shutdown my computer it takes forever and when I hit ctrl alt del I cant see windows task manager.

Bootvis may help, but you may also want to look into using UPHClean (User Profile Hive Cleanup service) - not only will it speed up your boot times, it'll log in the event log what it had to do to force your user's registry to unload, and what the culprit is that is likely causing your problems.

Note that most slow shutdown issues are caused by (surprise) print drivers and antivirus software holding your registry open, and not relinquishing control over open keys. UPHClean forces a registry unload, which bandaids the shutdown process until you can fix the root cause (which you'll see in the logs, if UPHClean has to do it's thing).

That is true, it could be antivirus software that is giving u troubles. What kind of AV have you got on?

Could you please tell us what software did you install after windows reinstall. You should track changes after each software install and see when this delay of shutdown happens..

Another thing I have seen slow the shutdown of some of even the fastest machines...

External harddrive enclosures attached via firewire/1394, and in some cases USB.. More so some firewire enlcosures with harddrives in them.

I don't see how bootvis helps.

BootVis, as its name implies monitors the boot process. The thread starter is asking about shutdown.

What part of the shutdown process is taking the longest?

do you by chance have your comp set to "clean up page file when shutting down"?
