December 29, 200520 yr managed to wrangle a 40 gig. USB HD today, trying to install BootPe on it and not having any luck. I've followed the instructions for both a flash drive and a hard drive and tried mixing the 2, still not having any luck. Anyone know how to do this?
December 30, 200520 yr What exactly is failing/what is the error? Does your system support boot from USB?
December 30, 200520 yr Author my laptop can boot usb devices, but when i plug in the usb hd, i just get a blinking cursor when it tries to boot from it.
December 31, 200520 yr Wich filesystem do you have on the usb disk. I have seen this when i forgott to reformat the disk to fat
January 2, 200620 yr Thats your problem. I hade the same issue with ntfs. When i switched to fat it worked
January 4, 200620 yr Author so it will not work under a NTFS system? What if i wanted to save a file bigger than 4g?
January 6, 200620 yr If this is a PE install, presumable to fix broken computers, I don't see where you're going to need to put a file greater than 4GB in there. If that's absolutely necessary, make another partion and format that as NTFS. Then access it once you're up and running in PE.
January 27, 200620 yr BTW, you can also have ghost or whatever you are using for your image to break it into smaller pieces

February 2, 200620 yr 1) Read these:http://home.graffiti.net/jaclaz:graffiti.n...SB/USBfaqs.htmlhttp://home.graffiti.net/jaclaz:graffiti.n...B/USBstick.html2) so it will not work under a NTFS system? What if i wanted to save a file bigger than 4g?if the USB drive is seen as "Fixed", nothing prevents you from multipartitioning it, once booted NTFS filesystem is fully supported, you will need just a minimal FAT16 partition to boot from3) idf the USB drive is seen as "Removable", you can use the Hitachi Microdrive Filter Driver to make it "seem" "Fixed":http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=14292jaclaz
