thebigob1 Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 managed to wrangle a 40 gig. USB HD today, trying to install BootPe on it and not having any luck. I've followed the instructions for both a flash drive and a hard drive and tried mixing the 2, still not having any luck. Anyone know how to do this?
getwired Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 What exactly is failing/what is the error? Does your system support boot from USB?
thebigob1 Posted December 30, 2005 Author Posted December 30, 2005 my laptop can boot usb devices, but when i plug in the usb hd, i just get a blinking cursor when it tries to boot from it.
mats Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Wich filesystem do you have on the usb disk. I have seen this when i forgott to reformat the disk to fat
mats Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Thats your problem. I hade the same issue with ntfs. When i switched to fat it worked
thebigob1 Posted January 4, 2006 Author Posted January 4, 2006 so it will not work under a NTFS system? What if i wanted to save a file bigger than 4g?
RogueSpear Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 If this is a PE install, presumable to fix broken computers, I don't see where you're going to need to put a file greater than 4GB in there. If that's absolutely necessary, make another partion and format that as NTFS. Then access it once you're up and running in PE.
Radimus Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 BTW, you can also have ghost or whatever you are using for your image to break it into smaller pieces

jaclaz Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 1) Read these:http://home.graffiti.net/jaclaz:graffiti.n...SB/USBfaqs.htmlhttp://home.graffiti.net/jaclaz:graffiti.n...B/USBstick.html2) so it will not work under a NTFS system? What if i wanted to save a file bigger than 4g?if the USB drive is seen as "Fixed", nothing prevents you from multipartitioning it, once booted NTFS filesystem is fully supported, you will need just a minimal FAT16 partition to boot from3) idf the USB drive is seen as "Removable", you can use the Hitachi Microdrive Filter Driver to make it "seem" "Fixed":http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=14292jaclaz
